It would be easier for them to sneak in our Southern border in backpacks. I work for a shipping company. The system is FAR from unbreakable but the security reports are filed directly by the shipper to the Government. And the operator of a port, whether leased or not, is not going past the Longshoreman's Union.
Way to go Rush!
Maybe Rush is Right (again). Maybe the President has "set this whole thing up" to force the Dems to acknowledge there really is an enemy. I hadn't thought of this thay way, but if that's the unintended consequence, hmmmmmm..
Who will the P&O sell its leases to, is another unanswered question.
These companies run huge operations on small profit margins. It is obvious that prices will go up, and traffic will not be as efficient, which also raises prices by slowing commerce - especially since production everywhere has moved to a Just-in-time model which requires smooth movement of goods.
Nor past the Coast Guard, the Customs Service, etc etc etc
I understand what you said, but too many hysterics do not get it.
No I think it is another example of the poor political skills of the Republicans. They figured it was a a limited Govt deal. Look this is private business, we have no bases to interject the Govt into a private business deal, let her buck. Amazing how the "Conservatives" are the one pushing despeately to grow the Govt involvment here.
That IS the problem, isn't it? My concern is that some of us are getting caught in the DumocRAT talking points. Which is sad. Maybe it is a tsunami, if Frist is part of the deal to stop it. But it's bad business for the USA.
What? Now, I'm getting dizzy.
I know, we all love and respect our determined screeners at TSA....NOT. We'd really get improvement of shipment procedures if the GOVERNMENT ran it...NOT....
Rush is getting good info out, if people will listen.
The ships come from ports all over the world - many owned and/or operated by this same company.

A tipster e-mailed me last night:
I work as a corporate lawyer at a large law firm that has a speciality in Islamic finance. The real reason Dubai Ports World is undergoing the transaction is because of an Islamic finance vehicle called the sukuk. The sukuk is essentially a commerical paper type of Islamic financle vehicle--it is essentially a "fake" bond to work around the Muslim prohibition on interest.
Now comes the interesting part.
As you might know, Dubai has recently christened (my word) its stock exchange. It hasn't been very successful thus far--so they've been looking to
acquire really high profile items to trade on it. (Note: they also tried to buy the Refco assets after Refco collapsed). If the Dubai Ports World sukuk goes through, it becomes the largest publicly traded sukuk in the world.
As a result, Dubai instantly becomes the place to go for Islamic finance in the world--and folks specializing in Islamic finance stand to make a great deal of money.

Sad to say, Frist is a re-actor, not a pro-actor. He is a good man, but not a true leader.
Rush just made the point that if the deal goes down because of the 'tsunami' it will be because of hidden strategery of the President to get the 'rats to admit we're fighting a war against a real defined enemy. I don't think W thinks this way, but it might be an unintended consequence. You can no longer effectively argue that it's discrimination to target folks from the UAE. After all, the worst of the Dems do that when it comes to their shipping company. So, maybe we DO need to watch them and maybe even surveill them with the NSA. Interesting argument, but I still don't think it justifies the opposition. But if we lose, then that's what we do.
Seems this a bipartisan effort ... Pataki and King oppose the deal. Again, this deal was made in backrooms, cloaked with secrecy and that more than anything else has engendered mistrust. If they've nothing to hide, then there should be no problem scrutinizing the proposed contract.
No it's not. Port security is done by the coast guard and the port authority.
Rush is right that this is a strategic political game for the Democrats. They really shouldn't play poker with W.
And Capitalism increases in the moslem world.
