Yesterday, February 18, Ken Blackwell and running mate Tom Raga attended the Northeast Hamilton County Republican Club's pancake breakfast. It was hosted in the Sharonville Convention Center and more than 200 Hamilton County Republicans attended.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that with a vote of 103 to 57 (64% to 36%), Ken Blackwell won a straw poll over opponent Jim Petro (who currently under investigation by the FBI for allegedly selling contracts for campaign donations).

Sharonville- Bob McEwen won the straw poll at the Northeast Hamilton County Republican Clubs’ Seventh Annual Pancake Breakfast. The participants representing 14 communities backed him in the Republican nomination for the Second Congressional District and supported Ken Blackwell over Jim Petro for Governor.
McEwen said, “I am grateful for the confidence of the leadership of Republicans in Hamilton County and their support for more jobs, and not more taxes in our region. Our communities, our schools, and our working families all suffer when tax rates are increased and jobs are lost. The endorsement by these Republican leaders gives hope to those looking for jobs in southern Ohio. They appreciate that a Congressman committed to Ohio will be a strong voice for their concerns in Washington, D.C.”
McEwen was endorsed by popular State Representative Tom Brinkman earlier this week. When he returns to Congress in January, he will begin his 7th term representing the taxpayers of Ohio.

I'm for Blackwell, but not for McEwen.
I think he is tacking the oportunity to bash Jean Schmidt. Political oportunism. Bob has had his day.
McEwen is an embarrassment and a gadfly, desperate to try to win back the office by any means necessary. His antics 14 years ago in the check-kiting scandal cost us a safe House seat and enabled the career of Ted Strickland. Whatever negatives Congresswoman Jean Schmidt amassed while in the legislature has already been overcome by her performance in Congress in just a span of several months.
It's time to say "NO" to the perennial loser McEwen and "YES" to Schmidt !
Ken Blackwell has real balls - former head of the National Taxpayers Union I believe.
This man could be President one day.
But Jean's day is over. The Return of Bob...

Blackwell is the one guy in this state that doesn't make me want to run screaming for the border. God bless him.
I've met McEwen, tall, grey hair (right out of central casting type look), a little too smooth. Jean Schmidt is a breath of fresh air in Congress, we don't need some warmed over pol who has spent the last 15 years or so working in Washington as a lobbyist. McEwen purchased, or rents, a condo in the 2nd District so he could establish himself in order to run against Schmidt. He lost in May and if he runs against her again ... he'll lose.
Blackwell left the program long enough to tour a gun and knife show on the second floor of the convention center. He was wearing his leather NRA jacket.
This guy is great. I can't wait to get out there and pound the pavement for him.
Jean Schmidt, on the other hand, is a nit-wit. It's a shame that she is the heir to the Portman legacy.

Ken Blackwell will be only the 2nd candidate that I will actively support financially and volunteer for in my life. I would love to see him be President someday, but I'm afraid he wouldn't stand a chance at the national level. He's "too conservative". And he's black. Two strikes against him: one from the dominant RINO culture in Washington and the other from the MSM's hatred of any black conservative. Throw in the democRat racism element just for giggles and that might be strike three before he could even announce his candidacy. He's too great of a man to subject himself and his family to that.
LOL...My pastor (a retired cop in Clermont Co.) always asks about Jean Schmindt...."Is she still wearing her bun??" She isn't that well liked by people that know her. She won by default.
What's so amazing is how in the same breath, Blackwell (the best hope for restoring Ohio to greatness again) is mentioned with an old gadfly like McEwen (who shops districts like I shop for hats), who is part of the PROBLEM with the OH GOP. I mean, I'm sorry, but if it's a choice between the has-been loser and the lady with the biggest BALLS in the OH delegation, there's no contest.
Actually OH-6 was one of the most swing districts in the country when McEwen and Strickland faced off. On the other hand, Mean Jean nearly lost an actual Safe R district to a Democrat even more mentally disturbed than Howard Dean.
Mean Jean voted for Bob Taft's tax hikes. She lied about her encounters with Tom Noe. She took gifts from lobbyists and failed to report them, just like Governor Tax. Any campaign worth their salt can easily tie her to Taft, just like Hackett did.
As a Congressman, Bob McEwen voted for the Reagan agenda. He maintained a solid conservative voting record for his entire 12 years in office. As a State Rep, Mean Jean Schmidt was a rubber stamp for the Taft agenda. It took her less than 3 years to sell out us conservatives.
Given the choices, I'll take a Reagan conservative over a Taft RINO any day. Bob McEwen has my vote, and it's not even a close call.
If Mean Jean had any balls, why didn't she vote against Bob Taft's Sales Tax hike? Why didn't she vote against Bob Taft's Gas Tax hike? Why did she sponsor legislation to raise additional taxes in Hamilton County? Mean Jean was a rubber stamp for Governor Tax, at the very time we needed some state legislators to have the courage to vote with us conservatives.
Both Ken Blackwell and Bob McEwen are two of the few Republicans in this state who have maintained a solid conservative record. They've earned our vote.
Mean Jean Schmidt nearly lost the special election because of Bob Taft, not any particular weakness of her own.
I admit that her notorious remark on the House floor was a major gaffe. But I prefer her loose lips to Bob McEwen's bouncing checks.
Bob McEwen is not a spokesman for conservative principles. He's just a has-been hack who wants a cushy job.
