Europarliament calls on US to close Guantanamo
Spain Herald ^ | February 17, 2006

Posted on 02/17/2006 2:54:09 AM PST by Asereje

The European Parliament yesterday passed a resolution calling on the United States to close its detention center at its base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The vote took place after most of the Euro-MPs had left for the afternoon, and was passed by 80 votes in favor to 1 against, with one abstaining. However, the Europarliament consists of 732 members, meaning that 650 of them did not vote on the resolution. According to the text, "All the prisoners should receive treatment conforming with international humanitarian legislation, and be tried as soon as possible after a public hearing by a competent, independent, and impartial court." The text continued, "Combating terrorism can only be successful if human and civil rights are respected," before reiterating its condemnation of "all forms of torture and mistreatment."

I am not missing the point by a mile, in fact what happens is that I don't know nothing about this point that is why I made my question and learn from the answer because I don't how how justice works there as many Americans don't know they system of other countries.

But if a simple question upset you so much to the point of insult others and you don't have patience to answer don't pay attention to my questions and that is all

Thank you a lot for the information.

It is so estrange the things you heard in Europe about Guantanamo, Iraq, Bush administration that you need to listen to the other side to know the truth and here the media is so biased against America that is difficult to know what is happening objectively

Not a problem, but that works 2 ways.
Don't post if you can't take the heat and that is all.

I just don't share your opinion - please accept that without getting personal or insulting.

Well let them send their cute little guys
in the blue hats over and make us.

But before doing that, why don't they begin with quelling their Muslim riots? I think Congress ought to pass a resolution demanding exactly that.

We have the same problem with the Old Media here. I suspect Europe is at least 2-3 years behind us in political blogs and sites like FreeRepublic, though. It's nice having routed around the Old Media. They simply aren't the information gatekeepers they once were.

Ah, OK. I should have known that, that's one of the battles featured in Victor Davis Hanson's Carnage and Culture, which I highly recommend.

This is the address for the European Parliament. Each country represented has a contact point.

I just called the Spanish a bunch of Eurotrash cowards.

Your European Parliament is free to be as inefficient and inept as it desires. I care not. I merely stated that it has no authority over the sovereign US. In fact, were it not for the US, there would be no European Union. The Third Reich would be enjoying its 61st year of existence, and Europe would be in the grip of Nazism. Of course, it isn't much better now.
