And your opinion is like a butt-hole...everyone has one.

You maintian this is nothing more than an innocent "Business Deal", and have said this on every thread...then kindly respond to this:

Would you let a guy who is responsible for robbing apartments "oversee" an Apartment building?
A convicted Rapist "oversee" a Sorority, or an all-women gym?
Or a known Car-thief to "oversee" a Car lot?

But letting a known terror/terrorist supporting Nation oversee "businesses located within the port" is OK?

Um, the Bin Laden group has business connections everywhere, and paid for AlGore's anti-American diatribe in Saudi Arabia the other day. In SAUDI ARABIA, the Bin Laden Group paid for AlGore's speech!

And you don't think "businesses" might be involved in Terrorism?

No, you'd rather believe that a Terrorist Nation is just looking at 6 East Coast Ports to invest in, as a lark?

Does the UAE, as a nation, support terrorism? Certainly, there are citizens of the UAE who are terrorists, but does that say anything about the government or this particular company?

LOL! There is no direct question, just more of the same disinformation the left and press is pushing and finding a few people to believe.

They are a Muslim Nation..do some research into how you do business in a Muslim Nation, but also read this...

Bin Laden's Stature To Rise With World's Tallest Building
Commentary, Mamoun Fandy,
Pacific News Service, May 10, 2004

Editor's Note: No matter how much the Bin Laden family tries to disassociate itself from Osama bin Laden's name and deeds, the construction of the tallest skyscraper in the world -- planned for Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, and to be built by the Bin Laden Group -- can only benefit Osama's stature in the Islamic world.

Gee, d'ya think that the Government of the UAE didn't know the Bin Laden Group? I guess you do if you are a certain FReeper on these threads...that's just innocent business

There are several Muslim nations that are our allies these days. Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan and Qatar come to mind. It seems like the UAE probably falls into that group. Don't we have military units based there?

Gee, d'ya think that the Government of the UAE didn't know the Bin Laden Group?

I'm familiar with the Bin Laden group. I've seen them involved in deals my clients have been part of. As far as I can tell, the Bin Laden group has done a very good job of cutting themselves off from OBL and anything to do with terror. Heck, IIRC, affiliates of the Bin Laden Group are contractors for the US government in Iraq.

We've been on excellent terms with the UAE since 1971. In many ways they are the most pro-western nation in the region.

Oh, and here's a list of "businesses" like Dubai

SECURITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE CONCERNING AFGHANISTAN ISSUES FURTHER ADDENDUM

Note how many "businesses" are in the UAE...

The Committee will continue to maintain an updated list, based on information provided by States and regional organizations, of the individuals and entities designated as being associated with Usama bin Laden, including those in the Al-Qaida organization.

Entities:

Al Baraka Exchange L.L.C., P.O. BOX 3313 Deira Dubai, UAE; P.O. Box 20066, Dubai, UAE

Al-Barakaat, Mogadishu, Somalia; Dubai, UAE

Al-Barakat Finance Group, Dubai, UAE; Mogadishu, Somalia

Al-Barakat Financial Holding Co.Dubai, UAE; Mogadishu, Somalia

Al-Barakat Global Telecommunications (A.K.A. Barakaat Globetelcompany), P.O. Box 3313, Dubai, UAE; Mogadishu, Somalia; Hargeysa, Somalia

A1-Barakat Group Of Companies Somalia Limited (A.K.A. Al-Barakat Financial Company), P.O. Box 3313, Dubai, UAE; Mogadishu, Somalia

A1-Barakat International (A.K.A. Baraco Co.), Box 2923, Dubai, UAE

Al-Barakat Investments, P.O. Box 3313, Deira, Dubai, UAE

Barakaat Construction Company, P.O. Box 3313, Dubai, UAE

Barakaat Group Of Companies, P.O. Box 3313, Dubai, UAE; Mogadishu, Somalia

Barakaat Telecommunications Co. Somalia, Ltd., P.O. Box 3313, Dubai, UAE

Barakat Banks and Remittances, Mogadishu, Somalia; Dubai, UAE

Barakat Global Telephone Company, Mogadishu, Somalia; Dubai, UAE

Barakat International Companies (BICO), Mogadishu, Somalia; Dubai, UAE

Barakat Refreshment Company, Mogadishu, Somalia; Dubai, UAE

Barako Trading Company, LLC, P.O. Box 3313, Dubai, UAE

Baraka Trading Company, P.O. Box 3313, Dubai, UAE

Parka Trading Company, P.O. Box 3313, Deira, Dubai, UAE

Red Sea Barakat Company Limited, Mogadishu, Somalia; Dubai, UAE

And that's just the business watch list from what looks like Oct 2001.

So I'm sure there are no "dirty" business connections to terrorists for this simple transaction to allow a UAE Company that has bought out another company to oversee "business operations" over 6 East Coast ports...Nah! Don't be silly!

You seem to have missed what the editor's note said...

And you cite this as a GOOD thing? I'd say it's more evidence that the State Dept. is as Clueless as it is Dhimmi!

I'm not sure I get your point. Looking at this list, it seems like the businesses in Dubai seem to be PO Box addresses. How does that implicate the government of the UAE in any way?

So I'm sure there are no "dirty" business connections to terrorists for this simple transaction to allow a UAE Company that has bought out another company to oversee "business operations" over 6 East Coast ports...Nah! Don't be silly!

Well, I'm open to the possibility that this company is somehow a front for terrorism. What evidence do you have?

I suppose that's true. But so what? It's not surprising that a construction concern like the Bin Laden Group would want its name associated with what might be the world's tallest building.

And you cite this as a GOOD thing?

I'm citing it as proof that if our govenment is willing to use the Bin Laden Group in Iraq, knowing what I know about the vetting process for contractors over there, that tends to lead me to conclude that they're pretty clean.

Sorry, this story is BS.

The company in question will not be managing the port or be in charge of security.

Oh I understand that.

But the UAE is a Terror State, with LOADS of "businesses" with Terror connections. No matter HOW they've "co-operated", the Bin Laden Group is still a HUGE player in Dubai and the whole UAE!

Now, with all we have seen, and knowing we do not inspect 100% cargo, why give Terrorists ANY possible backdoor link into 6 US Ports? Wether for simple profits to be used elsewhere, or to smuggle in materials thru connections?

They are not getting a backdoor.

They in fact will more likely to be inspected by CBP then the other operators at the ports.

As for me, I inspect folk’s from every Middle Eastern country out there, and the folks from the UAE are the most trust worthy.

This article is rhetoric, designed to insight an emotional response.

Um, the contract is with a UAE company, not the UAE government.

You also fail to note where the UAE has even been involved in terrorism even if it was the government that was running it.

Thank you, that was going to be my next point. Sadly, otherwise intelligent FReepers are diving in and gnashing their teeth for no reason. Note those who say they won't vote in '06 because of it. Liberals know how to use propaganda.

It goes along with the Australian TV station broadcasting "new" (read: previously released but didn't make the rounds on the MSM) images from Abu Graib... and the Sand People are frothing even further.

(Of course, this now negates our response for the past week: "Why are they attacking us? We didn't print the cartoons!" Thanks to Aussie liberals, they now have an "excuse"... not that they ever wait for one.)
