Cheney cleared in hunting accident

White House faces questions about disclosing incident

Tuesday, February 14, 2006; Posted: 1:19 p.m. EST (18:19 GMT)

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (CNN) -- Authorities have cleared Vice President Dick Cheney of wrongdoing in the Texas shooting of a hunting companion, while reporters aimed tough questions at White House officials about their delay in disclosing the accident.

During Tuesday's White House news conference, spokesman Scott McClellan was asked if waiting 14 hours after the shooting before Cheney spoke with police was appropriate, and whether an average citizen would have been afforded the same amount of time.

"That was what was arranged with the local law enforcement authorities," McClellan said. "You ought to ask them that question."

McClellan referred other questions about Cheney's shooting of campaign contributor Harry Whittington to the vice president's office and local police.

Awh, come on.

Toldyou has it right and you're just trying to save face. Every report states that there was no drinking. Others have pointed out that Cheney's heart condition and medications prevents him from drinking, so that's ruled out. You're just splitting words and nit-picking the facts because you're back-peddling so fast you're about to trip over your own words. This is the kind of "the-fact-are-to-be-found-between-the-lines" mentality I would expect from the MSM, not someone who supposedly supports Cheney and the Bush administration.

Authorities have cleared Cheney of wrongdoing in the accidental shooting of Whittington, but questions about Saturday's incident remain.

During Tuesday's White House news conference, spokesman Scott McClellan was asked if waiting 14 hours after the shooting before Cheney spoke with police was appropriate, and whether an average citizen would have been afforded the same amount of time.

Deceptive comment. Makes it sound like the incident wasn't reported to local authorities for 14 hours instead of the Veep talking to them personally at that point in time.

I believe the incident was reported within at least an hour.

Cheney should give an in-depth interview on the incident with the local High School newspaper, just to p-off the libidiot media.

might as well bring a raw rib roast and throw it in the middle of the pack of wild dogs, but then again helen thomas might end up more undead than she already is.

"Naw...Bill wouldn't have had the guts to touch a dead body and Hitlery was busy washing Vince's brains out of her hair. She was underneath him, distracting him while the hitman did his job."

And, didn't Hillary hit a cop?

Forgot to remind everybody.

Al & Tippers book is still at the Dollar Tree for $1.00.
I check it out often as I can, the store has had it on the shelf for more than a year.

If you want a gift for your liberal friends, this could be it, original price was 35.00.

You will save 34.00.

No spam here, though I'm gonna drop the same comment on the related thread....AMAZING how much the press has appeared to be WISHING for Mr Whittington's death, isn't it? I mean...releasing the accident to a local newspaper wasn't the same as releasing it to the "Press" - empahsis on the "P" - and they've been trying to make this accident out to be a CONSPIRACY - emphasis on all letters, of course - ever since.

They're ghoulish.

I feel very badly for Dick Cheney. Any hunter that hurts something other than his intended target feels awful about it.

The media is proving just exactly how stupid and unworldly they really are. They are totally clueless about hunting, guns, and the responsibilities of all involved.

I am sorry for the man who got shot, but I think it is his fault. He left the line to retrieve a bird, then came up behind Cheney and DID NOT inform Cheney or anyone else- all facing away from him and trying to flush birds- that he had rejoined the group and that he was close behind them.

Maybe other hunters will be more aware of this breach of the rules, but I don't think the media will EVER get it.

The NBC reporter should be taken out behind the wood shed for a good talking to. He has behaved like a total ASS , IMO.

There are two issues I have not heard discussed yet about this accidental shooting.

1) why is no one focusing on how a 78 yr old may just be not as capable of hunting and his reflexes and judgment may be a real factor in this case?

2)what concerned me about this accident was how vulnerable Cheney would be to a sniper or other enemy in those woods..where the heck were the secret service to monitor the area and be aware of this guy just popping up out of the bushes? No one seems concerned about that.

"Until the guy dies from it (something about a pellet in his heart now) or some hosptial induced bacterial infection......"

True.

If Mr. Whittington dies and the shooting was intentional, will Cheney be charged with manslaughter or murder?

While I don't think Cheney has ever given us a list of all the medications he's taking, we know it must be a lot - I wonder if any of these prohibit him from drinking alcohol?

Heart attack survivors generally all end up on the same classes of medications, and there are few medicines available for gout. Medications for heart attack survivors:

ACE inhibitor such as lisinopril (Zestril), or AR blocker
anti-cholesterol "statin" such as atorvastatin (Lipitor)
aspirin
beta-blocker such as atenolol (Tenormin), metoprolol, or carvedilol (Coreg)
fish oil capsules
nitroglycerin prn
? second lipid-lowering medication
? second blood pressure medication

For generalized atherosclerotic disease:
pentoxifylline (Trental)
sildenafil (Viagra) prn

For left ventricular dysfunction:
furosemide (Lasix)
beta blocker as noted above (esp. carvedilol)
ACE inhibitor/AR blocker as noted above
? digitalis (Digoxin)
? aldosterone blocker such as spironolactone or eplerenone (Inspra)

For gout:
allopurinol (Zyloprim)
indomethacin (Indocin) prn

Other:
yearly influenza immunization
multi-vitamin
low-fat, high-fiber diet
bee sting kit near at hand (for food allergy)
Other possible medications include more aggressive anti-coagulation, e.g. with warfarin (Coumadin). If Cheney's "metabolic disorders" are related to glucose intolerance, he may be taking oral anti-diabetic medicines.

Cheney cleared in hunting accident

ROTFLMAO! (with melancholy)

Cleared from an accident!

There is just too much media competition these days.....

Back in the days of Chappaquiddick, the competition was lacking!

Nice coordination. Since monitoring the mews is what I happen to DO most of the time, monitoring the news happens to be what I DONE since the story got REbroke in the er - I guess they consider the mass media now to be The Only Media and small Corpus Christi newspapers are just so many dead trees - and NEVER, until YOU TWO, HEARD OR SAW ANY SUCH INNUENDO.

Commendations.

WOW!! WHO KNOWS?!?!? MAYBE WE SHOULD ASK TED KENNEDY IF CHENEY WAS WRONG IN WAITING!!!!!!!!!! LIKE, CHENEY DIDN'T LEAVE THE GUY ON THE GROUND TO BLEED TO DEATH WHILE HE FIGURED A WAY OUT OF IT!! SURELY TED CAN TELL US HOW TO HANDLE THIS. CHENEY SHOULD HIRE TED IMMEDIATELY TO GUIDE HIM THROUGH THIS MESS!!

Cheney should also consult with Hillary as they certainly obstructed the FBI from getting Vince Fosters files after his death. Even sent some of the Toons aides over to his house to make sure the relatives didn't tell the FBI anything!!!
