Nevada gives legalized prostitution uneasy embrace

MOUND HOUSE, Nevada (Reuters) - In a small Nevada town, a sign at the end of a poorly lighted street lined with warehouses bears an unusual message: "Warning-Sexual entertainment 300 yards ahead. If sex offends you, get out of here."

At the Bunny Ranch in Mound House, men travel many miles to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars to have sex in the only U.S. state to allow legal brothels.

Yet even in permissive Nevada, legal prostitution operates at the margins of society and, unlike other vices such as gambling and pornography, without mainstream America's embrace. The brothel owners themselves disagree whether to stay in the shadows or trumpet their services.

So what do you call the men?

Customers?

Patrons?

Bargain hunters?

Yes, well...that's your belief.

Well, technically it's God's promise. I just believe what he says.

OK. I'm not a Libertarian

I'm not a (L)ibertarian at all. Perhaps a libertarian though.

Yes, health inspections of restaurants are not foolproof, but I maintain that private sector solutions would be no better.

Based on what evidence?

Anytime you have human interaction, there is risk of corruption.

True, but irrelevant since it only addresses one component.

You must have thought of it because you used the "s" word.

Indeed, there are prostitutes who will legally serve you in every State in the Union. . .

. . .we call them "Attorneys-at-Law" and "Elected Officials". . .

The story doesn't sound like the men are bargain hunters. Sounds like they have to pay for someone to have sex with them.

If it's so safe and lucrative, why not have it available in every state?

Because incumbant politicians don't want any competition?

I can't begin to understand why anyone would pay for sex.

All men pay for sex in one form or another. In classic relationships, you just don't realize you paid for it until much, much later.

I live in Northern Nevada. The typical house of prostitution consists of several older double-wide trailers, surrounded be a chain-link fence topped with razor wire. It's is an area of wrecking yards, porno shops, crack houses and beer bars. And the men going in and out of these establishment tend to be the pitiful wrecks of our society. These places will never be mistaken for resort hotels, dude ranches or even 1950's Los Vegas style strip motels.

Also I question the amount of money these sex workers say they have earned, considering their typical clientele (callow youths, handicapped adults, and the elderly).

Yes, some better paying clientele from out-of-state, travel from the nearby hotels to be serviced. And places such as the Moonlite Bunny Ranch, and the Mustang Ranch provide limousines for their better paying customers.

I agree.

Also, as a person, I do not like someone telling me what I can and cannot do with my body. Why is selling my body for sex illegal, but my services as a maid, not?

Of course we can get into moral discussions and such, but it is a necessary outlet for alot of people. Fact most people don't want to accept.

If the entanglements are what worries this so-called "man", he should just try a Bud Bundy doll. It would be a bit more discreet if the man truly wanted no entanglements.

How does a bible quote, make it go away?

The quote itself doesn't make it go away, but if people everywhere believed and practiced what the bible said then it would go away. That's going to happen someday.
