Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean said Sunday that Vice President Dick Cheney "cannot remain in office" if he ordered his chief of staff, Scooter Libby, to leak classified information to the press.
But in the next breath Dean falsely claimed that Libby himself had "been indicted for leaking information."
Appearing on CBS's "Face the Nation," Dean said: "It may be that the vice president leaked security information in a time of war in order to discredit political opponents. I don't think the vice president has any credibility on national security whatsoever and I think he's in deep trouble."
Referring to reports last week that said Libby told the Leakgate grand jury that his "superiors" authorized him to leak classified intelligence on the Iraq war, the DNC chief contended:
"If it turns out that Scooter Libby, who said this week that his superiors ordered him to leak the information for political reasons, then this vice president may not be vice president very much longer."
Moments later Dean added: "If that's true the vice president cannot remain in office."
Pressed on what he meant, Dean explained:
"If it turns out that what Scooter Libby testified . . . to the grand jury, that his superior ordered him, or suggested that he leak the information to the press in order to discredit one of their political opponents - if that happened in a time of war - then the vice president cannot sit in the office he now occupies."
Asked if he would favor an "impeachment proceeding" for Cheney, Dean said: "That's getting a little far down the road. First we have to find out of it's true."
Despite his incendiary rhetoric, Dean managed to get a key detail about the case wrong, when he told "Face the Nation": "It's been alleged by Scooter Libby, who's been indicted for leaking information, that his superiors ordered him to leak that information."
In fact, the Libby indictment has nothing to do with "leaking information," but instead alleges that the top Cheney aide made false statements to prosecutors.
Cheney need only announce that he changed his mind and will now run for President in 2008. Howard Dean would drop dead in fear.
I adore and worship Howard Dean, my hero.
The DNC is going bankrupt under his psycho-ravings and utterly incompetent leadership.
Keep it up, *sshole!!!
No, you're right, Howie...he has to leave in '09 whether he wants to or not.
:-D )))
Cheney would kill the crap out of Dean. It's quite possible that he'd never be able to talk again.
Asked if he would favor an "impeachment proceeding" for Cheney, Dean said: "That's getting a little far down the road. First we have to find out of it's true."
Did he say that? He is "the gift that keeps on giving."
Dean refers to Wilson as a "politcal opponent." But I though old Joe was just some sort of whistleblower, apolitical. Isn't that what they've tried to have us believe? Hmm.
It never fails to amuse me the way that Karl Rove somehow magically made vocal chords grow in Howard Dean's rectum, because that is the ONLY way I can believe the sh*t coming out of that guy!!!
GO Howie GO!
Dean wants to turn VP Cheney into the next Agnew.
Libby and his lawyer have both denied that any part of his testimony indicated that ANYBODY told him to expose her.
Scooter ping!
Has any MSM outlet reported that Libby's attorney has denied vehemently that Libby will blame the VP for telling him to out Plame?
Of course not.
Someone needs to remind Howie since he has such a cronic case of A.D.D. that if his buddy Rockefeller hadn't LEAKED GWB's security plans in Feb 2002 to Iraq and Syria we wouldn't be in the mess we're in now. Everytime the U.S. has a serious problem anywhere in the world it always traces back to the Democrats greed or stupidity.....i.e. Carter and Clinton's...[both Clinton's]

I love it, keep up the good post.
Howard, my dear, you have no idea what our beloved Vice President, Dick Cheney can and will do. You have no power in the DNC, just a BIG MOUTH!
