Internet T-shirt Vendor Profits from Mohammed Cartoon Conflict

To see the latest creation from conservative t-shirt maker MetroSpy some would think the Muslim world had every right to be upset. MetroSpy's new t-shirts depict an unflattering caricature of the prophet Mohammed with a bomb on his head.

The controversial cartoon, which first ran in European newspapers, has outraged Muslims around the world because Islamic tradition forbids a graphic depiction of the Prophet Mohammed.

Many in the U.S however, are angered by the violence being displayed by extreme Islamic protesters -- torching buildings, desecrating flags and in some cases even killing people. Annoyed by the violent images broadcast from the Middle East, MetroSpy decided to sell t shirts with the controversial caricature emblazoned across the front.

“We can't let the terrorists win. We can not encourage this uncivilized behavior by caving in to their wishes,” said Nate Thomas, product manager for MetroSpy

On their website (http://www.shopmetrospy.com/), MetroSpy denounces the tactics of Islamic extremists and encourages its customers to stand up against terrorism. "Failing to print these images mean the terrorists have won", the site says.

“We wanted a simple way to exercise our freedom of speech and to stand up to the terrorists. This design was perfect,” said Thomas.

So far, the Mohammed t-shirt has become their best selling item of the year -- more than 120 orders the first day it became available.

Critics of the Mohammed t-shirts say this is a perfect example of why Americans are hated around the world. Finding humor in the desecration of another's religious symbol, even if you disagree, is just plain wrong.

Despite the critics, MetroSpy intends to keep selling the Mohammed cartoon t-shirts.

What loser wrote this article? Know full well if it was a T-Shirt showing a crucifix in a jar of urine this writer would be gushing about how "cutting edge" the t-shirt seller was and what neatherals those protesting the imagery were.

I hope they give the cartoonist a royalty fee. It'll help pay for his bodyguard.

Finding humor in the desecration of another's religious symbol, even if you disagree, is just plain wrong.

Of course, rioting, embassy burning, and making death threats against those who do it is perfectly acceptable.

Funny, but there aren't ANY critics named in the article and this sounds like an exact quote. Could it possibly be from the article's author? I bet it is.

Really. So do they also have a right to kill people who they disagree with?

They can be outraged all they want. When they threaten to kill those who offend them, they need to be arrested.

Hi DTogo-

We're reading from the same sheet of music. Some crazed Muslim would see that shirt and could attempt to stab you in the middle of the grocery store or the shopping mall without warning. Freedom of the press is a wonderful thing, and I'm not going to personally invite trouble up to my face.

Shooting someone with my H&K or SIG over a silly tee-shirt just isn't worth the hassle to my family.

The ones which supposedly got them really stirred up were never published in the paper, unless you count the bad fax of a contestant in a French hog calling contest.

The guy took those images along with the ones which got published, spent a couple of months on the road talking with Imams and then all this "spontaneously" erupted.

Bogus 'cartoons', bogus attribution, bogus spontaneity, all of which simply points to a carefully planned and orchestrated act of widespread violence.

Funny that it comes on the heels of the NYT and others ballyhooing about communications intercepts by the NSA and others, and that the ensuing flurry of communications could be used as a smokescreen for other, even more nefarious messages.

I think it is an intentional attempt to overload the system.
