You can also add collards and Brussels sprouts to the list. All five of these vegetables were derived from a wild cabbage plant in England.

I eat at least one serving of these vegatables daily. Today I had three.

Supposedly the South Beach Diet has a cauliflower dish that tastes like mashed potatoes.

Mmmmm, broccoli . . . with butter and something from the spice rack, maybe a little lemon pepper or basil . . . or cheese . . .

None of you have ever had an egg roll? I've never seen one that wasn't stuffed with cabbage.

And if you take sauerkraut on your hot dog, you have just had another serving of cabbage.

I've been lovin' broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, collards and Brussels sprouts since I was a kid. Like 'em raw, boiled or sauteed. Have eaten more than my share of each, eat 'em all the time.

Damn near died of cancer in '89...

Go figger...

Broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage (as well as others) are members of a highly nutricious plant family known as cruciform vegetables.

Since I simply cannot palate the bitterness of broc or cauli, it's a good thing I like the cabbage so much: slaw, halupki, haluski, egg rolls, etc. Yum.

The Koreans say that sauerkraut can head off bird flu -- i guess it's good against the Big C as well. That does it! A reuben sandwich a day for me.

These are the so called "cruciferous" vegetables.

"Cruciferous" means "can't afford lobster tonight".

If they are derived they are not natural plants but man made food. These plants have a chemical that mimics estrogen, a female hormone. Is it entirely safe for men to pump up their estrogen levels over extended periods? What about growing boys? They often have a natural strong dislike for these foods. Do we really know what this extra estrogen does to their forming minds and bodies? Should boys trust their natural intuitions? Or is it that nancy boys are better behaved?

Oh no you can't. Not on my table. The other three are just fine, best if they're raw.

Broccoli slaw is a good option. The veggies you listed are also good for those trying to increase potassium intake and decrease sodium.

I guess I'm lucky. I love vegetables. Especially brussel sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli and spaghetti squash. The trick is to cook them with the right spices and for the right amount of time. My niece can make spaghetti squash taste like a gourmet treat. It's all in the cooking. AND buy organic vegetables (and fruit) if you can. The difference in the taste is startling.
