Scranton has dropped out of the gubernatorial race, making Lynn Swann a virtual lock for the endorsement, without a primary.
No link just yet, it was breaking news on the TV broadcast.
Interesting... very interesting. I have to wonder if Swann being introduced at the Super Bowl on Sunday made Scranton throw up his hands. How does anyone buy that much publicity? ;~))
For PA Republicans, the day could not be better!
For Rendell, the pucker-factor is high.
Too bad the election isn't for another 9 months.
Much credit to him for the gracious way he is handling this!
NO SUBTERFUGE HERE. At least he was honest about it.
The Philadelphia Daily News reported last week that Gov. Ed Rendell was asked at a state budget meeting last week whether it was a coincidence the big charts he used were colored Steelers black and gold.
Rendell, a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan and TV commentator who appears increasingly likely to face a re-election challenge from Swann, the former Steeler, promptly fessed up.
"No, it's not a coincidence," he said. "This is outright pandering."
Do you mean, halfway through the NFL season?
Nice!!
Now if we could only get Petro to do the same in Ohio which would clear the path for Blackwell....
That's a really good idea!!
When the literal public ass-kissing begins, the end will be nigh.
We should be concerned with Philadelphia :(

Saving that image too. :)
This is huge. Swann does not have to spend precious cash on a primary battle and can begin taking shots at Rendell now.
By "open primary," does it mean that any registered voter could vote in the Republican primary? (In many states, that is what is meant by an "open primary.")....I've been away from PA for a long time though....it always had closed primaries. Perhaps what is meant is "no endorsement?"
He looked like a Candidate for President at the Super Bowl.
Is this Bill Scranton the son of the man who ran against Goldwater in the 1964 primaries?

On the flip side, it lets the Dims get the destruction machine fired up quickly, and it gives them plenty of time to set up the massive vote fraud machine they'll need in Philadelphia to have a chance of stealing this election.
But even this is good for us, in that the Dims will now have spend huge amounts of money they previously didn't have to in order to defend Rendell's seat. And they'll have to go all out to defend it; as another poster pointed out, Swann may have long enough coattails to give Santorum a huge boost.
