FReeper Canteen ~ Military Short Speak ~ Feb. 6, 2006
(Thanks Bro!) | Sweet Polly Purebread

Posted on 02/05/2006 6:58:31 PM PST by StarCMC

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT
Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies military and the family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

********

That's right - the Canteen mission
Support the troops and all they do
They've given up so much
All for me and you

There are so many here
Who keep the aim sure and true
They support the troops
And have lots of fun too

We dance and play
And spin on our toes
A turn of phrase
A joke or some prose

All for the troops
Who visit and  bask
Looking for a friend
A break from their task

So thanks to my friends
You know who you are
This army sister's brother
Is home from the war

You made my life easy
You taught me some things
You brought me such peace
You gave me wings

I'll always hold dear
The ones who have cared
Who gave me their true friendship
Thank you FReeper Canteen.

~ MILITARY SHORT SPEAK ~

ArmyPatch small   NavySeal small   Air Force Seal   Marines Seal small   Coast Guard Seal small (better)

Acronyms, initialisms and abbreviations that aren't generally used in the "civilian world."

What is an acronym? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words. It is spoken as one word.

What is an initialism? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words, but each letter is spoken separately.

What is an abbreviation? It is a shortened version of a word.

What is Short Speak? It is any and all of the above.

Want to know what  they are talking about?  Read on...

R, part 14

RESDAT  RESTRICTED DATA - Atomic Energy Act of 1954

RESHIP  report of shipment

RESOMS  Resource Scheduling and Operational Management System

RESPO  responsible property officer

RESS  radar echo simulation system

RESTA  reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition

RESTAT  Reserve Components status reporting

ret  retire

RET  resolution enhancement technology

RETAIN  Remote Technical Assistance and Information Network

RETC  regional emergency transportation center

RETCO  regional emergency transportation coordinator

RETO  review of education and training for officers

retrans  retransmission

Retread

Has a number of uses in the military, usually referring to a person who makes a change. A person who gets out of the military and then comes back in would be referred to in this way as would someone who retrains from one MOS to another.

Retreat

A bugle call sounded when the U. S. flag is being lowered at the end of the day.
Retriever
A special tank designed as a sort of "wrecker" for tanks. What they are able to do is almost a miracle.

retro  retrofit

REU  remote emitter unit

Reveille

A signal to awaken, get out of bed and begin the day. Often a bugle call, in boot camp more often the yells and screams of Drill Instructors and the sounds of GI cans crashing to the deck.

Today's Field Trip: NAS Souda Bay

If you have a suggestion for a Field Trip - maybe a place where YOU have been stationed and would like to re-visit - PLEASE Freepmail it to starcmc!!  Thanks!

a

Please remember: the Canteen is a place to honor and entertain our troops.
As such we attempt to keep it MOSTLY apolitical.
Thanks for playing and have a nice day!  LOL!!!

Welcome, And hugs as well.
Didn't intend to bring tears, but if they were good tears I guess they're okay.

My own sons didn't get to come through. I made a DVD for their unit as a substitute.

I'm told my coffee can fix stuff.
But I'm also told it is a form of interrogation banned by civilised people.
Of course, most people who drink my coffee normally aren't too civilised I am told.
("Civilised" is over rated anyway. Gimme good loud music and lots of hopping around anyday.)
