That it did. It might be noted that he rejected some solutions to his geometry if they didn't seem to follow reality. From that it might be assumed that he saw his work as not the final answer.

The fact that Einsteins geometry does not appear to have been violated does not mean that there are not numerous topologies that can give us the same results.
So the ancients might be right. The moon really is green cheese.
