FRANCE'S LE MONDE PUBLISHES FRONT-PAGE CARTOON OF MOHAMMED (Yippee!!!)

PARIS, Feb 2, 2006 (AFP) - France's respected daily newspaper Le Monde joined a European press campaign for freedom of expression Thursday with a front-page cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed and an editorial defending the right to ridicule religions.

The drawing by the paper's long-time cartoonist Plantu featured a head of the prophet made up of the words "I must not draw Mohammed" written repeatedly in long-hand.

"Religions are systems of thought, constructions of the spirit, beliefs which are to be respected certainly, but also freely analysed, criticised and even turned to ridicule," Le Monde said.

"A Muslim may well be shocked by a picture of Mohammed, especially an ill-intentioned one. But a democracy cannot start policing people's opinions, except by trampling the rights of man underfoot," it said.

Plantu told the newspaper that cartoonists and other humourists find it increasingly hard to touch on religion in their work.

"People do not understand to what point -- outside the Catholic Church which we can attack and which is, one has to say, very lenient -- it has become impossible to criticise religious things," he said.

Of all the institutions in France, the last one I thought would develop cajones were the newspapers.

Looks like Islam is dumb enough to make this a hotbutton issue.

It's always seemed dumb to me to have a pedophile murderer thief assassin as the central figure of your religion. How smart is that? What good can come of this?

Kathleen Parker said in her column: "One could make a quick argument against publishing some of the cartoons for being mediocre, but free speech makes no demand for quality. More to the point, the Danish cartoon controversy proves the larger truth that those groups most vocal in demanding tolerance from others are usually themselves the least tolerant."

Le Monde, while it has always been unabashedly leftist and anti-American, has also usually shown that peculiar French arrogance of believing that only France is the moral light of the world.

Good to see, whatever the reasons.

The text "Je ne dois pas dessiner Mahomet" translates to "I should not draw Mohammad."

Well, if they get targeted by terrorists as a result of this, does that mean Chirac lobs a nuke at someone?

Awesome!

As I said in another thread:

The islamic response or threats and boycotts just goes to highlight exactly what their cult is all about. Fear, and intimidation.

The cartoons are so offensive because they reflect facets of the truth, and this is what they do not want revealed. Instead of having the courage to face up to the truth about their so-called "prophet," his rape, his terror, his genocide, his pedophilia, and the present day outcomes of following his vile ideology, they try to hide the truth in the dark and "shoot the messenger" who reveals it instead.

Now why would someone so to such great lenghts to do this?

Because they know the man and the facts surrounding him are the basis for the whole pack of lies that the house of cards called islam is based on. If mohamMAD is exposed, the entire house of cards based on his lies and will come down.

Spread the truth, let muslim and non-muslim alike read for themselves the history of mohamMAD.

Freedom of speech is a right and will set them free. They should learn to live with it.

Imposing restrictions on images of mohamMAD is enforcing elements of sharia in the west.

The dhimmis do not understand this angle, but many RoPers do and will marvel at the powers of allah over the unbelievers. This will reinforce and encourage their beliefs. Today it's cartoons of Mo, tomorrow it will be something else.

I give Le Monde 48 hours before they come back with a simpering apology for "offending" Muslim religious sensibilities.

That's a full day longer than it took the last French newspaper, but Le Monde is no doubt made of sterner brie!

"This is playing out eerily like Tony Blankley's The West's Last Chance, although in his "worst case scenario" the EU doesn't show much backbone. He does point out that Europe is waking up to the Islamic threat and current events seem to indicate that is the case. We can hope."

Excellent book. Every FReeper should read it.

Wow, I sense a suicide bombing of Le Monde's offices sometime soon...

A few well placed bombs, or killings, will end the newspapers zeal for their so-called freedom of speech expressions to ridicule Muslims.

I will be interested to see if the Spanish newspapers get onboard. Maybe the train bombings in Spain haven't been forgotten yet.

Muslims are willing to die for their cause , somehow I don't expect newspaper people to have the same zeal. - tom
