Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's travels usually take her to far-flung capitals, but this weekend she's planning a journey closer to home and close to her football fan's heart.
Rice says she will attend Super Bowl XL in Detroit, and she's picking the Pittsburgh Steelers to win - even though she doubted the team in its run-up to Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks.
"I picked Pittsburgh to beat Cincinnati; I have picked against them every game since," Rice ruefully told reporters Tuesday. "I'm not picking against them again."
That's not to say she's become a real Steelers fan. Rice is loyal to the Cleveland Browns.
Rice, who can rattle off football statistics and history with ease, has said she might one day like to be commissioner of the National Football League.
She said she attended one previous Super Bowl, in 1985, when she was teaching at Stanford and the game between the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers was in Palo Alto, Calif.
I'm a lifelong Cowboys fan, so we normally get a couple of great years surrounded by at least a decade of crap. But I've always admired the Steelers and I think Bill Cowher definitely deserves this one.
She's actually a longtime Browns fan and believe me, it's damn hard to be one. And it's even harder for one of us to say anything nice about the Steelers. However, I know how she feels. I haven't seen a team so focused in years. Good luck, Seahawks, you're gonna need it.
No luck required. The hawks have a better QB, a better RB, a better offensive line, and an equally impressive D.
The two week max-out-the-hype interval between the conference championships and the Super Bowl will probably play its usual havoc with timing and intensity and that affects both teams. But honestly, if the Steelers play like they have been for the past few weeks your Seahawks will be running into a buzz saw (IMHO, of course).
Apparently, you missed the Carolina game. Carolina was hot as a pepper coming in. They got utterly destroyed. (As did Denver, I'll concede)
Steelers by at least 10? I'm with you on that. I say about 13 or 13.
I meant 13 or 14. Proofread and don't get in a hurry.
No, I did see the Carolina game and the Hawks were impressive. I will be glad if they win but have been (perhaps overly, perhaps not) more impressed with the royal a** kickings the Steelers have been handing out for the past five or six weeks. In any case, I really do wish you guys good luck, whether you will need it or not.
Oh, and thanks for the Bible lesson. :)
Thanks. It can't hurt.
Yoi ........ double yoi!!!
Steelers by at least 10!!!! How 'bout exactly 10? Double numbers in a friendly game of "pool", ya know? :) (Of course 20 or 30 would be acceptable, too.) |
The Steelers and the Bengals yes :)
