Then-State Senator Bill Sederburg (now President of Ferris State University, pictured with his daughter) and then-State Representative Debbie Stabenow (pictured here with her daughter, Michelle) led the passage of Michigan's child car safety law, one of the first in the nation.

Is there a required waiting period after the cloture vote for the confirmation vote? If not, why don't they just have the confirmation vote tonight (outside of the fact the good Senators don't want to work over the cocktail and/or dinner hour)? The default delay under Rule XXII is 30 hours of debate, ut that can be modified by a unanimous consent agreement. You probably recall a good number of cases wehre cloture and "vote on the matter" were held back to back, with no intervening debate. That was by previously agreed unanimous consent.
The UC for Alito also cuts the 30 hours short, but doesn't lay cloture and vote on the nominee back-to-back. I think the arrangement was made so last week, in order to give credence to the premise that filibuster had a chance. IOW, the GOP is helping the DEMs have cover and save face.

They have, but the dims keep mis-using the case just to get the "strip search" shock value.

Why haven't any of the Repubs corrected the story? They have done so over, and over, and over again. That's what makes the dems repeating it so shameless. At least the first time you could think maybe they misunderstood it.

Does anyone have an unofficial filibuster tally going on, the number who have said they will support a filibuster, and the number who have said they will not? I keep seeing rumors about how the Dims only need a couple more votes to sustain a filibuster, and that doesn't sound right.

I don't know why they keep sending someone up there to "discuss". None have a new point to make. It's like they hand the same speech off to each other when they leave the podium.
