I'm not sure of the current rules, but under the old rules, only 1 Senator could do a filibuster and he/she had to continue speaking to maintain the filibuster. The speaker/filibuster-er could be interrupted for questions by other Senators, but was not allowed to relinquish the floor. The filibuster would continue only as long as the speaker/filibuster-er could continue to speak -- and he/she had to be standing during the speaking. Once the speaker ceased, business proceeded as usual (meaning, the vote occurred).
