US director Steven Spielberg discusses his controversial new film "Munich," which deals with the aftermath of the massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics. In an interview with DER SPIEGEL he talks about the moral aspects of dealing with terrorism and responds to critics who claim he's betrayed the Jewish people.
SPIEGEL: Mr. Spielberg, can you remember the hours of the Olympic massacre? Do you know where you were when you heard the terrible news?
Spielberg: Yes, I do. I was watching a "Wide World of Sports" live broadcast from Munich when the news suddenly flashed in, and the well-known sports commentator Jim McKay became a man for the hard facts of world politics. I was glued to the TV for the next few hours. I think it was then that I heard the words "terrorist" and "terrorism" for the first time - they hadn't been part of my vocabulary up to then.
SPIEGEL: Later, you were frequently approached with ideas for a "Munich" film. For a long time you couldn't warm to the material, and kept putting it off. Why?
Spielberg: I declined for several years because I didn't like the scripts and because I considered it too complex a problem. I discussed this film with all kinds of people who mean a lot to me, in the hope that they would talk me out of it, even my parents and my rabbi. But no-one would do me that favor. So my scriptwriter Tony Kushner and myself took on the project as seriously and politically unbiased, and as uncompromisingly as possible.
SPIEGEL: And do you regret it?
Spielberg: Not at all. I am now extremely happy that I had the courage to make "Munich".

We had a German au pair (whom we rescued from some slave-driver types) who was delightful and had a wonderful experience here.

As a non-practicing Jew, I'm ashamed to say I know what you mean and what you say is correct. I grew up with a strong Zionist feeling...but that sounds very Spielbergish, doesn't it? I don't know why the majority of American Jews appear to be against the political waves that want to help them and Israel.

I often wondered why the Jews of Europe during the Holocaust didn't fight, tooth and nail against being lead off to the ovens.

I've repeated my theory ad nauseam. Lots of people agree with me. With all the great conservative Jewish columnists out there (Mark Steyn, Charles Krauthammer, Zev Chafets, Jonah Goldberg, Bill Kristol, Dennis Prager, etc), I'm baffled why none of them have echoed the same idea. It's seems pretty elementary to me.
To answer your question, Ashkenazi Jews were persecuted by blonde haired, blue eyed, primarily rural, primarily nationalistic, and fairly religious Northern and Eastern European Christians. They came to America, took a look around and saw that there was a huge glut of blonde haired, blue eyed, rural, nationalistic, religious Christians living in the South and the Midwest. So they said "these are the people we have to look out for".
Most of these Jews settled in big cities where they had no contact with rural Americans and were ripe for accepting the "city slicker vs. country folk" prejudices that you find all over the world. Many of these Jews were sympathetic to the Socialist and Communist movement. They simply could not fathom that Americans practiced an enlightened form of Christianity, and that's why America was good to the Jews. Instead they bought into the idea that America was good to the Jews because of "seperation of Church and state" (a myth that appears nowhere in the Constitution) and the likes of the ACLU.
Meanwhile, America's oldest Jewish communities were in the South, where they were NEVER subject to persecution. Many Jews had high positions in the Confederacy (Judah Benjamin is one example). But back in the big cities, Blacks, Italians, Greeks, Asians, Hispanics, etc, griped about the prejudice that they were subjected to, and the Jews bought into this idea that they had to align themselves with these minority groups so they could stand together against the great "White Trash" majority. What's ironic, is that whatever antisemitism that these Jews were subjected to, came at the hands of these very same big city minorities that they felt such an allegiance to. I guess they thought that if Blacks, Italians, etc, were calling them "kike" and "Hebe" behind their backs, imagine what all those rednecks in Alabama would say about them.
Sadly, this mentality still persists today.
Spielberg is going to die , but not for Israel, but because he is a Jew. And....so is his wife and entire family. You kiss up to Arab Muslim butt, instead of peace, you get beheaded. Some Jews like Spielberg, Streisand, Larry David, etc, never learn. Their holocaust is on the way, this time by their own Democrat traitor/treason Party hands. What fools!!!

The KKK didn't become anti Semite until the late 1890's and early 1900's when it expanded into the North where it picked the predjudices of some Northerners which was not only anti-Semetic but anti-Catholic as well. Having to do with the great immigrantion of southern and eastern europeans at that time.
Yes, he is married to a non-Jew. As for the religion of his children, I have no idea how they are being raised. However, none of these facts make a difference. Spielberg is a Jew. He will be slaughtered. His wife will be raped and then either shot or beheaded. His children will be murdered inf ront of him, one by one. It is amazing to me that American Democrat, Liberal Jews don't get it. The Arabs hate them all. Most folks in Israel and the IDF get it, so they know what is coming. Two other ethnic groups are in for a big surprise, Gays/Lesbians and American Blacks. Having spent significant time in the Middle East, I know the thought process of the Arab mind. Jews, Gays, Lesbians and Blacks are considered sub-human, groups to be eliminated from Islam and the world. And...they will be if the Democrat Traitor/Treason Party ever gets in power again. America better wake up!!! There are traitors among us, called the Democrat Political Party.
