What are the chances that, once a significant number of folks from NO get a taste of life above sea level, they might actually like it and decide to settle elsewhere?

Fairly high. I spent a few weeks in Lafayette and loved it.

The chances of former NO folks settling down in other places is VERY HIGH. That's already happened here in Springfield, Virginia. In any case, this is an immigrant community with folks from most places in the world. There is a budding restaurant district.

Several years ago I was able to inventory 135 restaurants within 2 miles of Springfield Mall. There are many more now. I am encountering New Orleans and other Gulf Coast cooks, waiters, etc. at the places we regularly go (and since I'm retired we are able to go out to dine whenever we wish). LA and MS plates are all over the place too.

Who in the world ever thought NO folks would be unemployed in a new home. They are quite welcome.
