ROFL.
Okay, after I mark down Frist's political skills, he counters with a good move. Well done in asking Specter to deal with it Frist.

I think Byrd threw the Alito support over the top. Reid knew he didn't have a leg to stand on if the most experienced, and distinguished member was for Alito.

How can that be? Can not Senators vote by proxy?

Why are they over seas??? They knew WELL IN ADVANCE about this debate Sounds like they are pulling the same stunt the Texas Dems didYes, it does. Specter says we've got other important business to attend to, and it's all been said about Alito, so let's get on with it. Reid is saying the Dems have more speakers---tomorrow---and he doesn't want to be pinned down.
This is a stall maneuver, not even a pretense of being otherwise.

That would be the filibustering Senator Kerry, who supposedly is in Switzerland. Perhaps Terrezza is buying the country.

Biden was allowed to vote by proxy on his committee vote.

They can't vote by proxy on the Senate floor. They have to be there in person.

Exactly! Do these Senators now work for people other than their constituents? Will Biden's state benefit from him attending the Palestinian/Terror elections?
These Senators are not diplomats and they should damn well know this.

Reid is apparently waiting for John "Did you know I served in Vietnam?" Kerry to ride to the rescue with his filibuster. I think Judge Alito and the missus can go ahead and pop the cork on that champagne bottle now! :-)

This gentleman from NC, Mr. Burr, is a class act!

How can that be? Can not Senators vote by proxy? No, they cannot. Biden's vote yestterday was under Judiciary Committee Rules, not Senate Rules.

So call for a quorum and then vote!....Don't we have enough to get one?
Well in most other venues you may could but in the Senate their rules don't allow for much to happen without 'unamimous consent'.
