How do you get horseradish in the States, is it the creamed or just the root in vinegar. We used to get just the root but now it all seems to be bottled creamed to a lesser or greater creamer mix some mild and some really hot. I sent Gretchen a jar of the hot creamed about a year ago.

The most popular make in Britain is Coleman's as in mustard.

I'd been buying raw horseradish root and trying to pulverize it in a juicer. What I am using now is creamed h-radish in a jar, stuff that is used to season meat, etc.

Horseradish is sold both ways .. raw (looks like an elephant foot in the produce section of the grocery store) or processed in the jar, mixed with vinegar and salt. Most people get the processed kind, obviously, unless they're adding it to soups, etc. Right now, I'm using Farmers, by Brede, Inc., but have also used the Silver Springs brand in the white and purple beet variety for years in our family.

Interesting Horseradish medical factoid

"Agricultural Research Service food technologist Henry Fleming and Oklahoma State University food chemist Brian Shofran proved both horseradish and mustard oil pack a punch against Listeria, E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus and other food pathogens you definitely don’t want in your sandwich.

That’s because these condiments contain a pungent chemical called allyl isothiocyanate (AITC). Mustard oil has 93 percent AITC, while horseradish has 60 percent AITC."
