I imagine there's half a dozen varieties of lichen we could launch to Mars.

Then, in 75 years, we could build condos.

Wait a cotton pickin' minute!

You cannot SPY on these beings, it is a violation of their intergalactic Constitutional rights.

We are probably alone, within the Milky Way anyway. There is abundant life out there, but it is all microbes. So says Brownlee, lead scientist of the recently landed comet dust return mission, Stardust.

I dont think we really want to know what is out there considering how far advanced we have not become. Sounds like trouble to me.

"...life as we know it..."

That is such an interesting phrase. What would happen if something came along that was not 'life as we know it'?

I keep remember a movie starring a little furry creature (an alien) called "Gizmo."

Ironically, our first hint of ET will probably be oddly elevated hydrocarbons in an alien atmosphere.

I look forward to success in my lifetime.

I hope that, if it ever comes, it happens a long, long time from now. The odds that our first contact with another intelligent species will have a good outcome for both species is, IMHO, very, very low.

Kay: Today there are approximately 1500 aliens living and working in Manhattan and most of them are decent enough, they're just trying to make a living.

Jay: Cab drivers?

Kay: Not as many as you'd think.
