Canada opposition conservatives take big lead

VANCOUVER: Canada's opposition Conservatives have taken a huge lead over the ruling Liberals and will have little trouble winning the January 23 election, a new poll said yesterday.

The Strategic Counsel poll for CTV and Monday's Globe and Mail newspaper put support for the Conservatives at 40 per cent with the Liberals far behind at 27 per cent.

The data shows that if the election were held now, the Liberals would be out of office after 12 years in power. The only question would be whether the Conservatives won a majority or a minority of the 308 seats in Parliament.

"It's a Tory (Conservative) juggernaut," the Strategic Counsel's Tim Woolstencroft told CTV.

Lets hope for a Conservative majority that tosses the corrupt Liberals out on their butts. The legacy of Trudeau, Chretien, and Martin has been devastating for Canada.

Prediction:

Martin shows the same amount of class when he's voted out as Schroeder did.

A big fat 0%.

Hopefully, if Harper and the Conservatives are able to form a majority government, they will follow through with the investigations into the corrupt Chretien/Martin regime, and follow the money no matter where it leads, hopefully into a two man cell for Chretien and his former stooge Martin.

It would be nice to have an actual ally on our northern border for a change.

It's against the law to broadcast results.

That's about as communist as it gets... Of course, we do live in Canada, what else would you expect?

In fact, I live in the Maritimes and I get a cable channel from Newfoundland, but they cut off the channel about 10 mins ago, because they're 1/2 hour ahead of us. You also can't get any internet radio broadcast until 11:00pm eastern time.

Hopefully, Harper will be more serious about investigating Chretien/Martin corruption than Bush was with Clinton Corruption.

It will hold up ... I just got a good omen. I went to the Birthday party store to get stuff for my twins' party, and picked up a St. Paddy's Day CD while there. Well ... I swear the guy that was singing "Danny Boy" and "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" was Brian Mulroney ... the exact same singing voice!!! I almost fell over ... the exact same gravelly bass and same intonations ... it has got to be a sign!!!

Does the Canadian Prime Minister have the same pardoning authority as what the US President has? If so, I foresee a massive pile of pardons being granted by Martin for his last days in Ottawa.

I understand how you might be pacing the floor biting your nails like we were during the past two presidential elections, but I urge you to reconsider your attitude. Think what it meant to us when the journalists here claimed that Gore had won Florida - before all the polls in that two-time-zone state were even closed!!

The result of that was that people walked away or diverted from their trip to the poll - only to learn later that the issue was in doubt and remained so for nearly a month! If you had fallen for that misleading report, and stayed away from the poll, I doubt that you would ever again wish for more "information" of that sort on election day.

And that was only the tip of the iceberg; most other states were called quickly if for Gore or slowly (the final margin of victory being the same) for Bush. There was only one real outlier from that trend, among 50 states. Thus people voting in the Pacific Time Zone were not told while their polls were open that Mr. Clinton's Arkansas and Mr. Gore's Tennesee had been won by Mr. Bush - even though if Gore had won by the same margin they certainly would have been told that.

The conclusion is that broadcasters projecting unofficial results from the East while polls remain open in the West is undue influence to which the broadcasters are not in principle entitled.

I have a friend there and she is sure Ontario will be the deciding vote... she's pretty sure enough people there too are fed up with liberals... so, she's hopeful. She can't vote, as she is still an American citizen, but her husband is Canadian and both are conservative Christians.

That's good news. I was reading that even in Quebec conservatives are poised to make the best showing ever.
