Wife Just Returned from Seeing End of the Spear (Vanity)
Vanity | Timmy

Posted on 01/20/2006 8:01:00 PM PST by Timmy

My wife just returned from seeing End of the Spear (opening night) with other ladies. She said it was amazingly powerful, and a must-see for all believers. For those who are not familiar with this movie, it is the followup to Gates of Spendor, about the five young missionaries martyed in Ecuador in the 1950's. After they are killed trying to reach this primitive and dangerous tribe, their wives approach the tribe and actually live with them for an extended time, bringing the Good News to them. They are now a Christian people, saved because of the incredible courage of these faithful people.

Haven't heard a peep from them lately, however. Maybe the producers told them to STFU. which is fine by me, I'd rather not know their politics and opinions.

Considering that the Narnia series may become as popular as the Harry Potter series (Narnia's gross is about the same as Harry's was at the same number of days after release, and it's still doing well), I would think the producers must have had a long talk about the virtues of STFU by this time.

I just came back from the move and found it one of the most moving experiences in years. I, my wife, and our friends were in reats at the end. It was extremely moving.

I greatly resent the efforts by Christians to demonize theis film without having seen it.

Please, everyone, GO SEE IT. half of all the profits are going to help mission outreach *by* indigenous peoples like the Waidani,

The movie is good. Not great, but good.

About a half hour after the movie, though, it occurred to me that the word "Jesus" did not appear in the movie. It's almost as if the film was directed to a Christian audience who would automatically understand why the missionaries did what they did. Nothing is spelled out, their spiritual motivations are not explored. Which is fine, and the movie is good. But the movie isn't really great, nor is it very evangelical. In retrospect, that strikes me as rather odd.

Pfred is in a class all to himself. During some part of the Matthew Sheppard imbroglio anti-gay rights and gay rights protesters both showed up. As they were starting to set up Pfred's folks arrived and went into their performance. The other two groups looked at each other and before the pro-gay rights people could speak up someone from the other side said loudly 'Don't know who they are but they sure don't represent us.' There followed several minutes of silence as both groups stared at Pfred's circus as though they were watching the landing of Martians. This scene appeared on the MSM once and I never saw it again.
