It's a mixed victory.Actually, I think this trivial report from the American South was given a procative but frivilous title.
Someone else in this thread has pointed to the significance of air conditioning in the rise of the American South, which, I think, is more substantive and valid than any crap about the Civil War.
There are lots of historical forces here and most of them are not, IMHO, narrowly political or military.
We are losing our identity quickly down here in places like the Piedmont and Nashville.
Both areas are booming but are becoming more like Fairfax county, Virginia with each day.
Yankees come down and many (not all) bring Yankee sensibilities on politics and culture.
The Deep South survives but that's about all. By the time my grandchildren are dead, it will be about done.
Look at Florida...who would have ever thought Florida would be a toss up state culturally and that the South would end in Florida for the most part around Ocala.
Remember when Kali was solid (R).
North Carolina is already at the tipping point. This is just how things go when folks think culture ain't worth preserving.
How will Texas vote when it's overwhelmingly Mexican descended. Sure there are Mexicans who supported their native son W and it would appear they are more (R) in Texas than in Kali but historically they vote (D)....they are not Cubans.
which btw.....Mexicans will become a big chunk of North Carolina voting too quite soon.
they may outgrow blacks in some areas, here in Nashville, there are already more Mexicans in the metro counties than blacks and so far ALL of the political groupings and leaders of the "Mexican Community" here are Democrats...all
