The way I see it is Saudi Arabia, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan should be glass parking lots by now. France asserting its right to defend itself is absolutely right. I just wish the US was operating under the same principle.

Imagine if GWB made such a statement. Thats Chiracs point. What he is saying to Iran, in effect, is you are now isolated, and any act,anywhere (though he means the US), that falls back on Tehran, leaves Iran open for te harshest possible punishment.
Chirac is no ally of the US, so this little statement should tell you how serious the Iran threat is.
