Oh my God, I love him,and I haven't yet heard a note-I'm going out tomorrow and buy some of his music-any short list suggestions for a beginner?

He is pretty heavy although he did do a concerto for the electrical guitar.

It's called 'Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra in E Flat Minor Op. 1.

Does a mixture of some of his composition with a little Albinoni thrown in (If you are familiar with the Baroque style of classical music).

If you don't mind heavy stuff (Neoclassical is what they describe Malmsteen) I recommend his first album 'Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force'. 'Far below the Sun' and Icarus' Dream Suite' is my favorite off that album. Most of the album is instrumental though if you don't mind that.

His most "popish" album (Still a little heavy) is probably 'Odyssey' which features Joe Lynn Turner who sang for Rainbow in the early eighties.

I am a Baroque/Classical junkie and also like progressive rock so the heaviness does not bother me.
