I grew up thinking they were poisonous and therefore dangerous with small children or pets around, so we never had them.
It was just something that I'd never even thought about buying until I got married and my wife brought one home. We don't have kids or pets so it didn't bother me. Now I know that we will never have one again unless I can somehow determine where it was grown.

I grew up thinking they were poisonous and therefore dangerous with small children or pets around, so we never had them. Exactly! I think I was even at the grocery this past Christmas and saw them on sale - red and white - and told my oldest daughter I didn't want one at home around our 3 year old because they're poisonous. It's stuck in my craw I guess... which seems to be a good thing after reading this.
