I suppose it similar to the UK where some women such as me love soccer and then others probably the majority cannot stand it apart from ogling the hunks.

I used to love baseball (probably started with my uncle taking me to a Dodger game) and I followed the Dodgers when I was a teen and later, and went to some more Dodger games.
Then the era of no loyalty for players came in and I got unnerved when we'd lose a player I'd grown fond of or we held on to some druggie. Baseball has never clicked in for me again.
My Dad watched roller derby and wrestling, found them amusing.... go figure.
Glad you got into football. Think it's a great plus for those who are.

Oh, goodness, a holiday? Does that mean our post office will be closed? I have some boxes for the troops to send.
Martin Luther King Day? Sounds like the Brits know more about what is happening here than I do.

It's a federal holiday, but the states, local governments and private companies are free to observe it or not. I think all the states do, and most, if not all local governments around the country. Most companies I know do not.

I remember you being caught out before going to the post office on a public holiday LOL. It may have even been the same one last year.
I know Mike said he was mailing some DVDs to me on Tuesday so I would think that your post office will probably be closed.

It's not uncommon for us to have a few nights of low 40's temps during the winter. On the other hand, we might also get a few days of high 90's daytime temps any time of the year.

OK in the UK a public holiday as we call them companies have to observe them unless their particular business means that they need to open or the public want them open such as restaurants etc.
Some supermarkets open on some public holidays normally if one has to work on a public holiday you either get double pay or a day in lieu unless your contract of employment includes working on those days.
Industry/engineering though would be closed on those days unless the process means for safety reasons they cannot close the plant down and then they would have a skeleton staff in.

I believe it was Columbus Day that I was fooled by.
As old as I am, I only remember holidays based on dates, like October 12, not some arbitrary Monday for a long weekend.
And as grateful as I am that MLK transitioned us out of Jim Crow without major bloodshed, I still think Washington and Lincoln deserved their holidays more and am unhappy that they were done in.
But I was unhappy when I outgrew Mary Jane shoes, so I'm not exactly one who likes change.
