Important Dog Food Recall (over 100 dogs have died since Diamond Pet Food recall began in Dec)

Please read the information below and pass it along if you know anyone who is currently feeding their dog Diamond Pet Food because over 100 dogs have died since the recall in December!

Even though Diamond, Country Value and Professional brand dog foods have been recalled for containing highly toxic aflatoxins, they have caused at least 100 dog deaths in recent weeks, say Cornell University veterinarians, who are growing increasingly alarmed.

While dogs keep dying from eating pet food tainted with aflatoxin, Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine is announcing it has developed protein tests that accurately indicate a dog's liver failure caused by the toxin.

Dog owners may want to seek veterinary testing for animals that have been fed affected lots of food even if they are apparently well. Recent experience has shown that apparently healthy dogs can develop liver damage after 2-3 weeks.

Diamond Pet Food has set up a website and toll free phone number to answer all questions relating to the recall. Information can be found at: Diamond Pet Food Recall http://www.diamondpetrecall.net/

We hope that this information can save some lives by reaching those who were not aware of the recall or the terrible impact it has had. Our thoughts go out to those that have lost their beloved dogs and hope the suffering is brought to a halt with increased coverage of this story.

Thanks Slim. Some of us grieve horribly for our pups. I called the breeder in Florida and got another one within a few weeks. I still miss Tootie but now I have Cookie to cuddle. I have found that the best way to stop the hurt is to get another. I feel sorry for people who get their hearts broken and decided to never have another animal because they don't think they can stand the loss of it someday.

“My 1 1/2 year old Jack Russell named Tootie died last March from an aflatoxin. I don’t know what she ate but the vet sent a specimen of her liver off for the test. She did die of liver failure from eating an aflatoxin. The vet explained that an aflatoxin is mold but we don’t know what was moldy. I have other dogs and they all ate the same food and none of them got sick so I am thinking it was something she ate in the yard. I was heart broken.”

I am very sorry for your loss. I just adopted a Jack Russell and I love him to death. I wish I had known a little more about them first. He’s really a hand full, he thinks he’s a Pit Bull. They’re the Evil Knievals of the dog world, they’ll try anything once.

Congratulations on your Jack Russell. We have 2 now expecting our 3 one (#9) this week. We have had 8 total in the last 16 years. 4 of the 8 were Jack Russel Rescue meaning we took them in when they needed a home. Out of our 8 (so far) only one was a mean biter, one was incredibly stupid and one has severe allergies. The other 5 were wonderful little doggie companions, they all were wonderful actually, except the biter. Some are extremely hyperactive but we have lucked out and haven’t had one of those. You need to meet the parents because chances are, that is the way your pup will turn out.
