Never a Texas Two-Step (TIME hit piece on Bush and Tom Delay-another example of terrible journalism)
TIME magazine ^ | Sunday, Jan. 08, 2006 | MATTHEW COOPER, MIKE ALLEN

Posted on 01/09/2006 6:15:52 PM PST by pittsburgh gop guy

When legal and ethical questions began spinning around House majority leader Tom DeLay last year, President George W. Bush was publicly supportive. Privately, though, he questioned his fellow Texan's mojo. Bush had scored 10 points higher than DeLay in the Representative's district in 2004, and that was only after Bush had recorded a telephone message to help rally local Republicans. "I can't believe I had to do robocalls for him," the President said bitingly to an Oval Office visitor.

To people who know Bush well, the remark said it all about the longtime chill between the two pols—a distance that is only sure to grow with former lobbyist Jack Abramoff's guilty plea. Both camps describe the two conservative Texan's relationship as professional—an alliance, not a friendship. "DeLay admires Bush's leadership but still thinks of himself as the strongest conservative on the block," a DeLay friend says. "They perceive DeLay as a bull in a china shop. They appreciate him as their protector and retriever." Like many of his colleagues on Capitol Hill, DeLay suffers under what officials call this Administration's general lack of respect for Congress. But he is also in the unique position of being the most prominent modern Republican politician in Texas to rise without the help of White House senior adviser Karl Rove, and the two have never been close. "Karl thinks of him as someone a little bit too opinionated for his own good," says an official close to both men. "And DeLay thinks of Karl as a former mail vendor, not some great guru."

This is one of the worst pieces of "journalism" that I have seen in ages - 9 paragraphs, 8 unnamed sources.

the President said bitingly to an Oval Office visitor

a DeLay friend says

says an official close to both men

top Bush advisers tell TIME

Republican close to the President's inner circle says

an adviser said after talking to White House aides

says a Bush friend intimately familiar with the staff protocols

A Bush aide said it

This passes for journalism?

Those who know, don't talk and those who talk, don't know. Time is crap. I figured that out twenty years ago and have never bought a copy since.

Bush supposedly made that crude remark about Delay to a "White House visitor"?

Puh-leeeeze...later in the article it goes on and on about what great lengths he supposedly goes through...to keep anyone that might be seen to influence him...at a distance..

But, COOPER and ALLEN (remember THOSE guys)...expect us to believe that Bush would say that casually to a visitor!!

Blech!

I have it, on good authority, that the MSM no longer knows what real journalism / reporting is.

That, coupled with the fact (from a top source within MoveOnOuttaHere.Org) that the MSM is nothing more than a DNC tool, can only lead to one conclusion.....

The MSM sucks. They long ago abandoned any sense of real journalism, and now resort to "Urninalism".

The VRWC looks at this as a matter of education. The following statement, according to a highly placed source within the VRWC, speaks volumes..."Our job is to let the voters know, make them understand, that the a$$holes of the MSM are nothing more than puppets of the a$$holes in the DNC - a gathering of a$$holes, if you will. The public must be made to understand this.

Norah O'Donnell hosted Hairball tonight...and she had on that writer/reporter that wrote the book about the NSA Scandal...

He should have been wearing a tin-foil hat during that interview...I swear, he sounded loonier than some of the callers to Art Bell's radio show.

Mr. Mandy Grunwald (Cooper) looks pretty desperate in this piece, all his hard work in the so-called plame affair having largely gone to waste roflmao ;)

I saw him interviewed on Hairball a couple of weeks ago...and he was just spewing garbage about President Bush and VP Cheney...

It was almost like he was desperate to take them down...

Now I see how he channeled that desperation...a HIT PIECE..in order to try to start a war on Capitol Hill.

I think the standards at the National Enquirer are higher.

No one who has an IQ over 80 should believe that Matt Cooper from Time Magazine and with his sleazy role in the non story Plame crap still have access to the White House and know word by word what the President is saying in private or what Karl Rove is doing? The lies of the media is just beyond anything we can imagine!

LOL

I have suggested a couple of times the last couple of years...that Cheney should make a "show" of perhaps running for POTUS....just to see how healthy the hearts are of Kennedy, Byrd, Schumer, et al.

Tell the rats, we know Dick's health isn't good but he's itching to get in there and some serious damage in a short period of time.

I really think that this "Impeach Bush" movement is more aimed at Cheney that Bush...

Whenever I have wandered into looney-lib land at DU or AirAmerika...there is vehement hate for Cheney..and more disdain and lack of respect for President Bush..

I don't know what that loveable Cheney ever did to those guys...but they really, really want him out.

I think the Libs have gone after everyone important in the administration. Looking back the list is kinda long.

Actually, having been a newspaper reporter in the past, I wouldn't be surprised to discover that administration officals sent these sources to the reporter. They might, in fact, have used Time to get out the message they want.
