Despite that, the judge in her divorce case suggested that - at 67 - she go for job training. Why does she need job training? Isn't she old enough to receive Socialist Security?

Divorce: The ultimate act of selfishly destroying a family. It is not weighted to one gender or another, as all humans have the capacity for selfishness.

That poor lady. If more of us acted like men should there would be no feminism.
To: Lorianne
Interesting. No feminist here but raising my three daughters toward professional careers. I want marriage, kids, the works for them but never want them to be dependent upon their husbands for existence.

I've always been of the position that it's perfectly fine to know how to be a good wife and homemaker as long as a woman also has the skills, talents, knowledge and resources to provide for herself and her family if something horrible or unexpected happens to her husband or if her husband does something horrible to her.
To: Lorianne
It is generally a good idea for the stay-at-home wife to have marketable skills and not just because their husbands might divorce them. After all, husbands die too. Or they become incapacitated and unable to work. I always supported my wife's career because I didn't want her to have to cling to another man for support (or go on welfare) in case I got hit by a bus or something. It's just good common sense.
In a marriage, there is nothing wrong with having the wife stay home to cook, clean and raise the kids. (In fact, the husband can assume this role as well.) But there should always be a fallback plan in case tragedy strikes. This can be in the form of accumulated wealth or in the form of a marketable job that the stay-at-home spouse can perform if need be. I believe that it is not a good thing for one spouse to be totally dependent upon the other's income for financial support.
My wife and I both have insurance taken out on the other so that if one of us dies, there will be enough money to pay off the mortgage and enable either of us to easily sustain the household standard of living on one income.

I feel bad that this lady's husband left her. Some guys let that 'mid-life crisis' thing override their common sense.
But she should be very proud that she raised her kids instead of foisting them off on a day care. She should be proud that she put her family first.
And because she did this, hubby should have to pay her alimony for the rest of her life.

The divorce left her facing an uncertain financial future, bereft of income... Wait a minute. This does not ring true. She would only have been denied spousal maintenance at that age if she HAD some other form of income. Likely social security, etc. Hence, it sounds like a gross exaggeration.

The only thing this shows is that we need to quit listening to people who haven't put in the experience that tests their suppositions.
The only people we should listen to on how to stay married are those that do...like the couple that were married for 70+years.
