the rules allow it.
what I am more interested in is what they do with this week. I don't think any more attacks against Alito will give them any traction. what they will go for now, is some kind of under the table attacks against the weak republican votes needed to sustain 50 for the constitutional option. any dirt they have, any private investigator results, they are going to use this week - to present that privately to these senators in exchange for them flipping their votes to break the filibuster.
do they have enough dirt to do it? who knows.

Anyone have a list of those on board for a fillibuster? It's not a filibuster .. in the rules the Dems can delay the vote for one week
They are trying to delay this appointment to the court because there are a couple big cases coming up

play right into the hands of President Bush...it might have been better to have them filibuster...but, this will do. The Dems don't want a filibuster because they know in the long run it will hurt them
They are delaying because of a couple big cases to be heard in the USSC and they don't want Alito on the bench
They would rather take their chances with O'Connor

I would tell Dingy Harry he could delay the vote for a week, but for every week of delay their would be a year delay for anything that slug wanted to bring for a vote.

Correct me if I'm wrong. As I understood it, the Dem's already had their week when the hearing was rescheduled. I believe it was to begin right after the new year. At least that was what I thought I heard at the end of the hearings.
To: wouldntbprudent
I think that the democrats want to use it as nothing but a campaign tool in their State of the Union response.
I guarantee they'll use it to get free air time to attempt to bring public opposition to the judge.
Also, they didn't want him to actually be on the floor with the other justices during the address, which would be a read as a victory for the president.

They're trying to delay the inevitable. Its a sign of the Democrats' unhinged desperation.

The delay is to let the smear ads run. I'd like the R's to invoke the nuclear option prior to this act that would eliminate the judicial filibuster if they want to delay the vote.

The delay is to let the smear ads run.Yep. And also allow our leftist media more time to schedule hand-wringing pundits to blather on about how Alito will single handedly overturn Roe and start a nation wide campaign of strip searching all little girls.

I just wish that our Republican legislators would remember the first rule of politics:
1. Never, ever, ever make deals with Democrats. NEVER! As with satan, they can never be trusted. Their motive is to lie, cheat, kill, and destroy.

One week is time enough to spend the millions they collected from the liberal loonies for ads attacking Alito.
The media has been promised this windfall from the Dems, and the Dems are going to make sure their co-conspirators get their money.

They need to nuke 'em, before it's too late.
This is the perfect opportunity.
To: saveliberty
Many of us would like to see the "nuclear" option exercised to end judicial filibuster, but we also know that there's not enough "Rs" with the guts.
