Iran’s Ahmadinejad: Sharon dead and “others to follow suit”

Tehran, Jan 05 – Iran’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told a crowd of theological students in the holy city of Qom on Thursday that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon “has joined his ancestors and others will soon follow suit”, according to the state-run Mehr news agency.

“The Butcher of Sabra and Shatila has joined his ancestors and others will soon follow suit”, Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying. The same report appeared on the website Khedmat, which is run by members of the Iranian president’s entourage.

Ahmadinejad’s announcement of the death of the Israeli Prime Minister comes at a time when Sharon was reportedly fighting for his life on Thursday after a massive brain stroke.

Iran’s state-owned media and newspapers have been reporting the Israeli leader’s deteriorating health condition with evident glee. In a statement put out by state-run news agencies, the Headquarters for the Commemoration of Martyrs of the Global Islamic Movement said “the death of Sharon brings joy to the hearts of Muslims”.

The ultra-conservative president told the radical Shiite Islamists, many of whom have come to Qom from different Muslim countries, that Islam did not restrict itself to geographical borders.

“We must believe in the fact that Islam is not confined to geographical borders, ethnic groups and nations. It’s a universal ideology that leads the world to justice”, Ahmadinejad said.

“We don’t shy away from declaring that Islam is ready to rule the world”, he added.

Ahmadinejad dwelled on his recurrent theme that the return of the Shiite Messiah, the Mahdi, is not far away and Muslims must prepare for it.

“We must prepare ourselves to rule the world and the only way to do that is to put forth views on the basis of the Expectation of the Return”, Ahmadinejad said, referring to the Shiite Muslim belief that the Mahdi, on his return, will establish justice in a world consumed by chaos and corruption.

“If we work on the basis of the Expectation of the Return [of the Mahdi], all the affairs of our nation will be streamlined and the administration of the country will become easier”, Ahmadinejad said.

“Some politicians think we had a revolution so that some could hit others in the head and have one party ruling for some time and another party in opposition for some time. But we had a revolution to achieve a lofty goal, on the basis on the Expectation of the Return”, he said.

Ahmadinejad said Divine Providence was helping Iran’s Islamist regime, as the turn of events around the world picked up speed.

“Our interpretation is that the hand of the Almighty is putting every piece of the jigsaw puzzle of the future of the world in place in line with the goals of Islam”, the hard-line president said.

Ahmadinejad cited the United States occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan, both Iran’s neighbours, as proof of his assertion.

“The Global Oppressor [the U.S.] occupied these countries with the aim of putting pressure on Iran, but God let the fruit of this fall on the lap of the Iranian nation”, he said.

If an atom bomb ever explodes in NYC, we will always ask why the US didn't nuke Teheran and its underground bomb making facilities. We have to pray that President Bush wil take the action necessary.

When I look at the Middle East, I don't see a powerful fundamentalist state after the conquest of Iran. It needs to be done, most likely with a full scale invasion. Make the dominoes fall on the other side.

Just taking out the nuke program only buys us time, and these guys are fanatical enough to attack us after we bomb them. There needs to be regime change at the same time.

The Europeans have connived at their own destruction, supplying Iran with the components of a missile system capable of hitting European capitals. The Europeans are utterly corrupt and decadent. Hitler mortally wounded European civilization; the Europeans now simply wait like sheep for this Shiite fanatic to deliver the coup de grace.

There's an implied assumption here - and that's that the Mahdi is alive and known, and Iranian. There's also the assumption that taunts will push Israel into an attack that will be answered with the death of many of Israel's leaders... When the idea of the Mahdi is mixed in this is what it feels like - it feels like they have the bomb, are willing to use it and are willing to have many of their own people killed in the process. Allowing your own people to die for a "cause" has that uber religious "mahdi" crap feeling about it. The taunts are getting louder, more personal and more offensive. It's not an accident. Ahmadinejad's someone's puppet and there's deadly strategy behind this. Or maybe not. But I don't like how it feels.

He is the head of state of Iran therefore his statements are under normal diplomatic rules considered authoritative policy declarations. Yet, the response around the world isn't even the equivalent of the Gallic shrug. More like 'Well, OK, so what?'

When someone's trying that hard to get you into a fight, you've got to wonder what they've got up their sleeve.

Bluster? Too paranoid and strategic for that...

This lunatic is virtually promising to wipe Israel and NYC off the map at the first opportunity. He will do it.

I suppose that's why everybody's so quiet. Either they don't care or they are looking forward to it.

What is the downside of, just for starters, taking this lunatic out by whatever means is expedient? How might history have changed for the better if only Hitler had received a bullet between the eyes in the late 1930's?

I don’t understand why we don’t send in the Mission Impossible team or maybe James Bond.

We can't just shrug this guy off anymore. That's what the world did regarding Hitler in the 1920s/30s, and look where that got us. Not to mention appeasement. And now it's even worse, seeing as the pro-appeasers want to GIVE him nuclear material. For energy my arse...

I wonder what sort of blitzkrieg will be attempted by Ahmadinejad because I really do believe there will be some sort of lightning strike.....somewhere...in some fashion. The West is just too cynical about blunt, raw political talk of his sort. The West assumes political talk is always misdirection. "He doesn't REALLY mean it." "What does he REALLY mean?" Well, we're about to learn the tragic way that Ahmadinejad is NOT a Westerner.

I personally don't like the agenda of people behind Iran Focus.

They are terrorists from a hated group called MEK

They should set a date for the Mahdi so it can pass without a blip and we can all get on with business.

An invasion will cost needless American deaths.

The people of any nation, regardless of political structure, are responsible for what thier nation does.

The Iranian people's cowardice in allowing these psychopaths to rule them does not make them guiltless should a nuke be aimed at the US or Israel and used.

Wipe the entire effing nation off the map as a lesson to nutjobs everywhere, once and for all.
