Indiana NBC Affiliate Rejects 'Book of Daniel'

NBC affiliate WTWO in Terre Haute, Indiana, has become the first station to announce they will not be showing "The Book of Daniel.”

"We expect other NBC affiliates will join WTWO in their decision,” said American Family Association (AFA) Chairman Donald E. Wildmon.

He also said that NBC is having trouble finding sponsors for the show. AFA says it has been notified by several companies that they have no plans to sponsor the show.

"It appears that NBC will be forced to fill the available ad spots with ‘distressed merchandise’ ads which are sold at pennies on the dollar of the going rate, and with ‘make good’ ads which bring in no money to the network,” Wildmon said.

Wildmon said that other NBC affiliates, bombarded with hundreds of phone calls protesting the manner in which Christians and Christianity are depicted, will refuse to carry the program. "We are tired of NBC’s anti-Christian bigotry,” he stated.

The program’s main characters include Daniel Webster, a drug-addicted Episcopal priest; his alcoholic wife; his son, a 23-year-old homosexual Republican; his daughter, a 16-year-old drug dealer; a 16-year-old adopted son who is having sex with the bishop's daughter; his lesbian secretary who is sleeping with his sister-in-law; and a very unconventional white-robed, bearded Jesus who talks to the priest.

According to media reports, the show is written by Jack Kenny, a practicing homosexual who describes himself as being "in Catholic recovery,” is interested in Buddhist teachings about reincarnation and isn't sure exactly how he defines God and/or Jesus. "I don't necessarily know that all the myth surrounding him (Jesus) is true,” he said.

they maybe entitled to free speech but we have a right to protest, and we don't have to give them money or support

I doubt we will ever see anything out of Hollywood that doesn't put Mohammedans in a 100% good light, 100% of the time.

If anything, they will do a show about an innocent Mohammedan family who is constantly being harassed by the (Republican) Government and their (right-wing Christian) neighbors.

If NBC really wanted to be 'courageous' they would do a sitcom about a jihadist family trying to fit in.

Wasn't that the plot of one of the "24" vignettes??

Semper Curious

The Bel-Airabs was the funniest thing I'd ever seen when SNL ran the bit back in what,'80? '81?

We were "on something" at the time, being Carter-era teenagers, but I had never laughed so hard in my life.

Did you capture that image from a DVD compilation? What year was that really from?

Let others decide for themselves if they want to watch it

Taking that to its logical conclusion would mean any and everything should and will be on television.

It has to stop somewhere.

good for you. thankx

No problem. I am having a personal conflict as to what to do...call or not to call. Part of me thinks that not calling is best....that the more mainstream America sees of the perverted left...the better it is for us because it will flop...let's not kid ourselves. Part of me thinks protesting it is best because mainstream America has become too stupid to tell the difference b/w right and wrong and needs to be protected.

Who should tell us what we can and can't see?

Let me guess, the AFA?

Oh my. You've wounded my sensibilities. I must not be a man, if you think I'm not.

Suck it up, big boy. You wanna watch crap, fine, pay for it. When kids go past this junk on PUBLIC airwaves, sometimes they stop and get polluted. I'd rather help keep someone else's kids from getting run over by a bus than just make sure my kids aren't running in the street. If their mommy and daddy (you?) actively want them to play in traffic, I won't stop them.

As for me, I prefer to try and keep my surroundings decent, and I'll stand up and fight for that.

Keep practicing, Jack. Maybe you'll get it right in the end.

Whew, I'm a little dyslexic today. I read:

Maybe you'll get it in the right end.

Waaa! I need someone to protect me! My faith will be destroyed by a TV show.

Unplug, or change the channel, its soooo difficult.

The free market.

If this show bombs, its off the air, if people want to see it, it stays, pretty simple to me.

No, MY faith will never be destroyed. You can't even read a post.

Or perhaps you can, but you don't have an answer.

First Free speech only applies to government interference. No Government agency is telling these Marxist to stop the show. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences. Call me a name and you may find a fist in your face.

Second, we do not have “EQUAL” speech. For example, where are the shows that show a positive, religious family? To date only the Simpsons has its characters going to Church, even thought about 80% of America goes to Church.

Why is it that even thought homosexuals are about 1.5% or the population, they are in over 60% of all shows, and about 30% or all characters?

You know that if this show was about Muslims, the Muslims would raise a swell of protest.

Why don’t you protest the constant anti-Christian barrage now in Hollyweird.?

In other words this show will be as bad as I thought.

Oh well, plenty of DVD's.

Because people should watch whatever they want to. I believe in the free market. It makes no difference to me if 30% of characters are homosexuals (I'd like to see your source on that) or 2.3289%. If it bothers me, I don't watch.

Nothing is stopping us from making a show about a churchgoing family. If that's what America wanted on the air it would be there, someway, somehow.

Remember, no one censors the stuff that they belive in.

Free market, if this show is good, people will watch, if not, people won't.

Of course all the furor will just make more people watch it.
