My daughter has returned from her contract work in Kuwait and is relocating to a job in San Ramon, California. She has been told that San Ramon is mostly commercial and most folks she works with live in Danville and/or Walnut Creek. I sure would appreciate anyone offering me any insights to living in this area.

Yes and no. As I noted, there is a bus from WC Bart to Bishop Ranch. The next closest station is Dublin/Pleasanton, there may also be a bus from there to Chevron. Unfortunately, Bishop Ranch (which is the office complex that houses Chevron corporate) is about 10 miles from each location.

OK, understood :-) --- well, there are various levels of housing. The rest of the living costs are about the same. High. Housing can be found in various classes from reasonable to obscene in costs. Looking toward outlying Pleasanton, even Livermore can make housing impact manageable. There are ranges. Living close to Chevron is good because the commuting from long distances can be a total nightmare. Good luck!

The Tri-Valley (as it's called) is a great place to live. I'm a transplanted East Coaster and have lived in the Bay Area for 30 years. The climate and outdoor recreation opportunities are exceptional - world class.
This is a heavily Republican area. Livermore/Pleasanton/Dublin/San Ramon/Danville are more family oriented and have great schools. Since your daughter is single she might prefer Walnut Creek as it is a little more urban/adult oriented. Stay away from the Central Valley and Solano Counties as the commute is terrible.
There is no BART to San Ramon. However, Bishop Ranch (where Chevron is) has a shuttle bus to BART. Your daughter could even live in Oakland/Berkeley or San Francisco and commute on BART if she seeks nightlife, restaurants, or arts.
Chevron pays well and I'm sure your daughter can find a condo or apartment if she can't get into the single family homes. She will enjoy life here

thanks to all, this is just what I was looking for and very helpful. Now, I just need to keep her out of the liberal areas.
