I wonder how much terrorism is really happening inside the United States.

I mean, if terrorism was actually reported, actually chronicled, actually recognized, would we be shocked by just how much is occurring right here in our own back yard?

This thought came to mind last week when I read the very first comprehensive story of an incident that occurred Dec. 18 in Chandler, Ariz.

You probably heard something about it.

Here's the way the story was initially reported by the Associated Press, the largest news-gathering organization in the world:

Authorities say a former home improvement store employee drove his car through the entrance of a Home Depot and lit the car on fire in the paint department.

Though the car almost struck an employee, no one was injured. Firefighters were able to contain the fire within 20 minutes, officials said.

The driver was identified as 24-year-old Ali Warrayat of Gilbert. He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and arson of an occupied structure.

The story went on to explain that police weren't sure what Warrayat's motivations were.

A day later, the mystery continued. The Arizona Republic followed up on the attack by reporting: "Police were still searching Monday for the motive of a man who allegedly drove his car through the front doors of a Home Depot early Sunday."

It was not until late last week that a local newspaper, the East Valley Tribune, finally reported details that gave the public some insight into Warrayat's motivations.

Here's what we learned from that report:

• Warrayat blasted Arabic music when he launched his attack;

• He planned the assault down to the smallest detail;

• The Jordanian-turned-American citizen wanted to make a big statement with his rampage;

• He considered wearing a Palestinian flag, but opted to place it in the trunk of his car, along with a copy of the Quran;

• When asked upon arrest if he understood his Miranda rights, Warrayat answered in Arabic. Asked if he understood English, the suspect replied: "Do you speak Arabic?"

• A co-worker said he was deeply religious and had a Quran hanging from his rearview mirror;

• In police statements, Warrayat referred to his religion often. He said a swastika was once painted on his mosque, so he had the mark tattooed in red and black on the bottom of his foot;

• Images found on his computer depicted men lighting Molotov cocktails and a cartoon showing two bloodied, dead children with "a Middle East flag" in the background;

Now, on the basis of what you know about Warrayat, are his motivations all that much of a mystery to you?

Should this incident not be regarded as domestic terrorism?

What would it the suspect have to do or say to be regarded as an ally of al-Qaida and the Islamo-fascists who have declared war on America?

Once again, we see law enforcement officials and the press establishment going out of their way to downplay even the possibility of terrorism. How many times have we seen it? How many times do we have to see it before we recognize the trend?

• I recall how any possibility that the Beltway sniper attacks were connected with terrorism was dismissed. It turned out they were carried out by two Muslims.

• I recall how a July 4 shooting attack on an El Al ticket counter in Los Angeles International Airport by an Egyptian Muslim was characterized as not connected with terrorism.

• I recall the would-be bomber arrested at the Oklahoma University football game a few months ago that had no connection to terrorism.

• I recall there just couldn't possibly have been a Mideast connection to the Oklahoma City bombing.

• I recall how TWA Flight 800 just blew up for no particular reason after takeoff from New York.

I could recite, off the top of my head, at least a dozen other examples of the way government officials and their accessories in the media have turned a blind eye to the obvious so as not to see the truth.

In fact, think of all the incidents – from power outages to explosions at refinery plants to thefts of munitions – in which authorities quickly dismissed any connection to terrorism, even before they had a clue as to the real cause or motive.

Could it be we have far more enemies within than any of us ever figured?

True, but the next freelancer may not be so stupid, and may be much more effective in making their "statement". I can think of half dozen ways to create lots of mayhem, and another dozen by breakfast tomorrow. Am I going to write those into a public forum? No way Jose.

It is hardly pointless. We are not engaged in a war on terrorism. We are engaged in a war on Islam. Be prepared for more of this. Farah's article is a warning. Unfortunately, too many will not heed it.

His point is that the FedGov is denying these are linked to terrorism when they are. Al Qaeda isn't a country club, you don't apply for a membership. Anyone who has sympathy for their "cause" and works to further that cause, IMHO, is a terrorist. All of the above were terrorist attacks, no matter how much the MSM or the FedGov wants to spin it.

I agree with the article but it doesn't go far enough IMO. What it doesn't go into is that behind every jihad attack there's a grubby sicko calling himself a 'spiritual advisor' who helps in the planning and gives his permission by fatwa.

Plot to kill Howard

TERROR suspects talked chillingly about killing John Howard and his family as payback for the deaths of innocent Muslims, a court heard yesterday.

The conversation between accused would-be suicide bomber Abdulla Merhi and his spiritual leader Abdul Nacer Benbrika was covertly recorded in September last year.

The pair allegedly discussed taking "an eye for an eye" and how kafirs (non-believers) had taken over the world.

Merhi told the alleged leader of the Melbourne terror cell: "I want in on everything. If there is anything you talk to me, all right? I am not going to talk anymore."

The 20-year-old allegedly asked Benbrika how to respond if the Prime Minister was to cause the death of innocent Muslim families.

"Do we have to kill him and his family ... his people like at the football?" he said.

Benbrika replied: "If he kill our kids ... we kill (inaudible) little kids."

Prosecutor Nick Robinson said the pair spoke of committing violent jihad in the name of Allah and believed the doors of heaven would be opened to them for doing so.

Merhi said on the tape his eyes had recently been opened and a message had to be sent.

"I have made my point. If it comes up I will go but I am not waiting 20 years or two years," he said.

Benbrika said innocent ones could be the victims: "Because he kills our innocent ones ... that is it. An eye for an eye."

He also encouraged the younger man to do a "big thing" close to railway stations....
