Please add incorrect news stories below. Use specific stories, not "any story about guns".

For example, the reports that the DC Sniper was driving a white van........

I believe in this case, the MSM only reported what was given to them and probably withheld any additional information until the families had been notified otherwise. Sometimes it's a fine balance that is often lost here.

Once again, the MSM (mainstream media)has exposed its complete lack of credibility, decency, morality and integrity.

Face facts..., the entire "news media" has declined to the point that their old maxim "if it bleeds it leads" has become "if you suspect it bleeds..., report it NOW".

FACTS "truth" BE DAMNED!!!

I watched Fox News. And when you hear screams of jubilation and songs of praise in the back ground that is almost deafening, what is the journalist supposed to do?

Of course he had to find out and report it to us. I know that "I" wanted to know what was happening.

Who knew that the report was false? :(

That had nothing to do with the media. That originated with Chief Moose.

"The crowd booed and Bush did nothing"

AP reporting of a West Allis, WI rally by GWB, at the point where GWB asked for well wishes for Bill Clinton on the news of heart surgery.

MSM news is not about reporting facts. It's about coup counting reporters for the breaking news high, front page scoops and network ratings. All else is meaningless.

Boy, Fox News is stumbling all over itself to explain the miscommunication. This is so sad for the families.

Just saw on TV that the families are now talking about going for life's lottery over the reports in error. My heart goes out for their losses. My ire is raised over the greed that they are expressing.

I agree. They are covering an unfolding story, and you see things as they occur. It is a problem though, and you saw it play out in the newspapers that are being delivered with the wrong story, and all the services that parroted one another with unconfirmed info. I sort of have to draw some squiggly line of seperation in assessing guilt for something like this.

I don't believe anyone did this out of malice.
It was simply an unfortunate combination of wishful thinking and incompetence.
Just sad, really.

Uh, who gave the news to the media to report? I don't think they had an embedded reported in the mine and am pretty sure the information relayed was what was given to them by the command center.

The local newspaper where I live made a mistake early last week and reported a crime "victim" was actually the "perpetrator" of the crime. Since that mistake, they have run an apology on the top of their website every single day! Makes me almost wanted to get home delivery from them again.
