That would seem to be the only reasonable conclusion. Otherwise the loss of the ball could be considered to be a fumble.

Go Longhorns! I am ALWAYS for a Texas team when they play in a bowl game..My heart belongs to Tech. I have a grandson in school there. Most of the family..Tech grads all.. went to the Cotton Bowl heartbreaker.

What happened when he hit the ground? He dropped it.

When any part of you hits the ground, other than your hands or feet, the play is over, that's the rule. Once you're on the ground it doesn't matter if you have the ball or not.

you both are wrong.

The ground cannot cause a fumble.

The player had demonstrable (via replay) possession of the ball.

Once he hits the ground he is down in college.

In the NFL that's an incomplete pass.

That should have been replayed.
