I've been in Letterman's audience three times (back in the early 90s, and mid-90s). It seemed to be largely a NYC and NYC suburban (NY-NJ-CT) audience, but there were always a few tourists there from red (and other) states. Obviously there were a few sensible people in the audience tonight who had the guts to applaud O'Reilly's comments.

good post....BOR gripes me at times...but i think back to the 70's and 80's when there was NO ONE out there even remotely conservative on the tube....i'm glad he's on....i have yet to meet one single person in my life that i agree with 100%....heck, not even 90%

I don't even watch Letterman, I find Leno and especially Conan much more amusing. As much as I like Leno, I can't wait until Conan takes over Leno's spot on NBC, probably mainly because I won't have to stay up as late to see him.

I like Conan, too. I USED TO BE a fan of Letterman, though. I watched the old clueless fool Letterman tonight only because Bill O'Reilly was on, and I suspected there would be fireworks.

If anyone's interested, THE POLITICAL TEEN has a video clip of the O'Reilly/Letterman exchange.

Letterman bales out every argument he loses with something to make the audience laugh.

I always catch Craig. He is so hilarious. He goes on for 10 minutes at the beginning just talking about one subject but it is just so funny I am always rolling on the floor. He is a master and that and when he is done, I frankly wish I had another 10 minutes of him talking about that same subject.

I am not a big celebrity guy, but I may have to send off for that guy's autograph. He is just so blasted funny and cool.

And his rant against Tom Cruise for 10 minutes on medicine was just the funniest thing I have seen in years.

He has expressed support for the troops and even adopted a unit during the holidays and sent supplies etc. His feelings on the war though, I don't know.

He is from Scotland...I would be shocked if he isn't a leftie.

But, he is funny, supports the troops, and otherwise keeps the politics out of it. The Bush jokes aren't offensive like they are on Letterman.

Letterman has been a leftist nutbag the last couple of years. He's really lost it.

I haven't watched Letterman in ages and I haven't watched O'Reilly, or very much Fox News, for about a year, as part of a concerted effort to watch much less TV.

I caught this segment just in time. Letterman was rather pathetic and has gone off the deep end judging by this segment. If only he was this hard on Hillary Clinton way back when.

I actually [ducking] agree w/Letterman about the Christmas brouhaha [/ducking] but the Swindly Sheepham butt-smooching made me get the dry heaves. CBS has heard from me about the traitor-coddling and that I'm Not Happy. Enough of us write, it may make a difference. But it is CBS, so we shouldn't count on sanity.

Keep plugging at the libs, Bill.

I caught this last night, and just found the thread.
I've been watching Letterman BECAUSE of his Bush bashing.
All his humor is pretty much nasty humor, but his Bush bashing has been something to keep an eye on. How BOR ever got invited to the show is beyond me.

He stripped Letterman naked, of any mask last night, IMHO.
I don't know how BOR kept from spitting on him.
If he'd known about the pencil, he probably would have : )

David Letterman is so very comfortable with his 'bastard' son, and his non-wife, in his comfortable job, in his comfortable country, where he is 'safe'. His crack about Sheehan was straight from Maureen Dowd. Is Letterman related to anyone killed in Iraq?????????????????????????

I saw, on the local news last night, the tax code changed.
What I think I saw, is that if you are not married, live with and support your girlfriend's children, you can no longer claim them as dependents.

I gave BOR a standing ovation.

"so if we are to believe David Letterman, you can't have an accurate opinion on the iraq war if you never lost a family member in combat??"

I get soooooooo tired of that argument and I am even more annoyed by the Iraq supporters who cower in the face of that point. Just ONCE I would like O'Reilly or someone to say: "OK, so you're suggesting that only those who have lost a loved one in the war and/or those who are related to someone serving in the war have the moral authority to speak on this issue? Great, because the percentage of those family members in support of the war is GREATER than that of the general population."

Just proves liberals never let facts get in the way. Letterman is a typical liberal...mis-informed and angry. How can you say 60% of what someone says is crap yet not watch their show? Letterman pulled on O'Reilly what Rosie O'Donnell pulled on Tom Selleck.

These kind of things are always so set up, it benefits them both, it sets up all these arguements and gets everyone talking, everyone will be watching O'Reilly's next show to see what he has to say and he'll have a week's worth of material, Letterman gets credit for saying what he "really thinks" and having controversial guests as opposed to the usual actor pushing a movie or whatever. I wouldn't be surprised if they agreed ahead of time that they would argue and what the main themes would be.
I actually like Letterman the most out of the big 3 late night hosts, more than Leno or Conan atleast.
