Why anyone takes this guy seriously anymore is more of a mystery than any obscure passage from the Apocalypse of John.

=================================

"When the New York Times surveyed all book sales for the decade of the 1970s, it found that Lindsey's had far outsold all other authors. His "Late Great Planet Earth" alone sold more than 32 million copies."

Hal Lindsey performed a great service by pointing out that there were important prophecies fulfilled in the 20th century. He got in trouble when he insisted on having Jesus return in his lifetime, and distorting scripture to "make it happen." His sales are based on the former, not the latter.

But before people cast stones, either against him OR the Crouches, I suggest they consider that even Peter was WAY off base on mingling with Gentiles until slapped upside da haid by God.

The biggest problem with the "end times" teachers today is that each one has his agenda/approach and has SOME truth/accurate interpretation of scripture, but won't work with others to get a bigger picture.

And thus the Jesus movement was aborted, shunted off into the barren boonies of apocalyptic speculation. Jesus wept.

One wonders how much of the royalties he has shared with his ghost writer. I suppose your point is that he has raked in quite a pile relying on the P.T. Barnum principle: "There's a sucker born every second." So, among the practitioners of that principle he is no doubt taken seriously as an example of great success in roping in the suckers. Granted.

I guess what I was getting at is, given his track record, why he is taken seriously as anything other than a successful flim-flam artist.
