Right. And it WAS the previous generation that gave us Roosevelt, Johnson, and all the socialist programs that we got stuck paying the bill for.

There were a lot of us who served and while we didn't meet your criteria of ending up as names on that black wall in Washington, we did win the Cold War and set the stage for our current successes.

And what, pray tell, have you contributed to this country, Sir?

I don't remember us Boomers wishing that the generations before us would die, do you?

I wouldn't be so hasty throwing around characterizations (though I think that is counter-productive, see below). Look at it from the point of view of the generations coming after the "Greatest" and "Boomer" cohorts. Most of them hear a never-ending litany of the virtues of these earlier generations. Yet, before most reach the age of majority, the nation is technically bankrupt, it is arithmetically impossible to ever reconcile lavish financial commitments made by these generations to current tax burdens, and government grows ever larger and more intrusive under the guidance of these earlier generations.

So generation "X" onwards is left with the impression that the earlier two generations sold them into indentured servitude basically before they were born, then put in place the means to forcibly enforce the terms of the indenture for the few decades that the older and newer generations will overlap in their grasp for the levers of power. To top it all off, mainstream criticism of these earlier generations is considered improper. I dunno, but this all sounds pretty anti-liberty if you ask me. Of course, like all generalizations, it only contains a very small kernel of truth, and the remainder is wild extrapolation.

Pretty telling about THIS generation, IMO.

No, it is just oversimplification of an underlying phenomenon. Characterization by generation in either direction simply masks the real issue: the highly corrosive effects of leftist thoughts and actions. And speaking as a Gen X'er, I want conservatives of all generations along my side while we struggle to expel leftists' anti-liberty tendencies from this nation's body politic. To look askance at potential allies simply because of their age is to play right into the divisive hands of the leftits.

It wasn't the Boomer Generation that "entitled" itself via soaring deficits at the expense of its children and grand-children.

Our "boomer" president tried to address this problem, and got kicked in the face by AARP and our courageous pubbies all defected.

So you understand how obnoxious it is to hear about people describe baby boomers as whiners. Good you got the point.

the "leading lights" of the Boomer generation such as Jane Fonda Jane was born in '37, pre-baby boom by 8 years.

You make a great point. Most of those who screwed this country up in the 60s & 70s -- Betty Friedan, Herbert Marcuse, Timothy Leary, Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Ruban, Tom Hayden, Ramsey Clark, Earl Warren, LBJ, Jimmy Carter -- were NOT Boomers.

Well, I'm in that first year crop (born in 1946) 9 months and ten minutes after Dad got home from overseas. Been a staunch Conservative my whole life.

As one of the sane Boomers, I don't think what you said about the whole generation passing away fast enough was very nice. You're categorizing a whole lot of good people with a statement like that and suggesting we were all the same.

And, I fear, America's descent into financial anarchy will soon begin.

You have to filter out the sales pitch, but this makes for some interesing reading.

After the self-centered lives they've led, many boomers apparently are afraid to die

Well, it's good to know how you feel about your fellow Freepers.

And it's also good to know you paint with a damn broad brush; that will be duly noted in your future postings.

Every generation has had people who created "muck". For example, during the 50's what penetration were all those commies in the state department from? And before that, how about all those Roosevelt New Dealers?

Actually these "Reds" were not a generation, but a group from New York City that had conflicted loyalties and infiltrated the Democrat Party through FDR's New York political machine. Their offspring were the "Red Diaper Babies" of the "60's".

I didn't describe anything; I merely parrotted back what the Xers usually say about the Boomers.

If your kids know the truth, that's because they were raised by people wh obelieve in telling their kids the truth.

As I said above, most of the ones carping have MAJOR issues with THEIR parents and are taking it out on a whole generation.

Curious then that you chose to reply to the boomer response to the Xer's nonsense but not to the initial post by the Xer....why?

The "Red Diaper Babies" of the "60's" which weren't a generation either.

This is my favorite part of their specious argument: "You're leaving us with all this debt."

Who the hell do they think paid for World War II, rebuilding Europe, building the interstates, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and all that Democratic welfare crap.
