Arizona senator John McCain could win the 2008 presidential election in the United States, according to a poll by Zogby International. 52 per cent of respondents would vote for the Republican in a head-to-head contest against Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
In 2000, McCain won seven GOP presidential primaries in the U.S., but retired from the race after eventual nominee George W. Bush became the frontrunner.
Rodham Clinton was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2000, defeating Republican Rick Lazio by 12 per cent. She ruled out a presidential bid in 2004. 37 per cent of respondents would vote for the Democrat, while 11 per cent would back other candidates or remain undecided.
Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.
Polling Data
Who would you vote for in a presidential election pitting Republican John McCain versus Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton?
John McCain (R) 52%
Hillary Rodham Clinton (D) 37%
Not sure / Other 11%
Perhaps McCain is the one Republican Hillary can beat and is therefore the pick of all left thinking pollsters.
I wouldn't vote for McCain if he was the last man on this earth.
Stop fantasizing about McCain!
What's Giuliani's stance on gun control?
Nah. I'm reading "World Weekly News." You can watch TV. At least 'til Mommy says it's time for bed.
Wait... you can read?
When it comes to your "intellectual" posts, I wish I couldn't.
Yes, they do seem to confuse you. Stick with Weekly World News. Your brain won't hurt so much that way.
Wow! What a choice!

Election day polls also had Kerry beating Bush easily.
Exactly! It kills me that the MSM writes this, but does not seem to see what it means, and will continue to mean. McCain may be the MSM's wet dream of a "Republican," but he is not conservative enough to appeal to the hardcore GOP. He can't carry the party. And yet the MSM is pushing him by putting out this poll and getting his name out there early.
Hm ... but perhaps I underestimate them. Perhaps they do realize he can't win against Hillary, so that's why they're pushing him? Diabolical, if so.
On a side note, the non-conservative Republican I like best is Giuliani. Dear Rudy can't carry the GOP either -- but we should be seriously drafting him for the VICE-Presidential spot. He just might carry NY, and he would pull in a lot of moderates and can't-deciders. He has a tremendous amount of charisma, and he has already shown he is a man who can deal with an immense crisis. If, God forbid, something should happen to his President, Rudy is one of the few men I feel sure would be able to carry on with confidence.
Rudy for VP in 2008!!!
I might be closer, but Mrs. Clinton would still win NY if Rudy was the VP candidate.
Hey! You spelled all the words right!
He's been pissy all night.
Far be it from me to give you a lesson in developmentally-disabled protocol, but I couldn't help noticing: You already tried to use spelling corrections as an imaginative comeback. Shouldn't you be moving right along to "I know you are, but what am I?" at this point?
You'd be the MOST likely to give me a lesson in developmentally-disabled protocol. BTW, your post on McCarthyism was spot-on. You're just wrong here.
Mrs. Clinton is currently in disfavor by a segment of liberals because of her lukewarm stance on Iraq, which is actually an intelligent ploy to garner moderate support (and I can't believe I just admitted that she was doing something intelligent). The 39% who say they support her are coming from somewhere, and it is neither the far left, nor the far right. Should she win the nomination (and I agree that this is far from a sure thing) the very same liberals who currently can't stand her will pinch their noses and vote for her because they would vote for an inatimate carbon rod over a Republican.
You'd be the MOST likely to give me a lesson in developmentally-disabled protocol. BTW, your post on McCarthyism was spot-on. You're just wrong here.
OOPS!
