For those unfamiliar with the area, you can pull up maps using "North 50th and Sooner, Oklahoma City, OK" (or N. 63rd and Sooner) here:

http://maps.google.com/maps

Then switch over to the satellite or hybrid option and you can see photos of the terrain and development (should be from 2003 or later.) You can scale in for a pretty high level of detail.

Yeah..... not a heavily populated area. I saw a big burn area today South of Quail Springs Mall.... and just short of the apartments to the south of Memorial. That looked like it was a near disaster.

Here is note from the lighter side for those watching the helicopter coverage from KWTV-9 on CNN. The pilot is reporting that the winds were so rough that his photographer got airsick so he had to fly back to the TV station to pick up another photographer.

I don't know if they have streaming or not. I don't think so. You can try www.newsok.com You'll have to register to get very far into the site, but it's free and they don't bug you.

And I'm sitting in my study in Kempner TX listening to the pops of firecrackers being set off by idiots about half a mile away...

Someone needs to bust some heads over that- pronto! Have you called the sherrif's office?

Holy moly! I used to live in Wichita Falls. There is nothing to stop a fire in that area, not to mention the oilfields -- a tinderbox waiting to happen. Prayers for them and everybody in Oklahoma.

Thank you. We just moved here from Louisiana. Nervous, but we are in Ponca City, so I think for now we are okay.

Looks like my home town of Portales is getting a sand storm.

I remember my mother putting up wet sheets at the windows to keep the sand out. I thought that all food was supposed to taste like grit.

Just looked at Newsok and it didn't seem to be very current. Webmeister must be off for the holiday.
