Mexico seeks allies against border wall
Wire services El Universal December 29, 2005
Top officials from Mexico and Central America are planning to meet on Jan. 9 to formulate a plan in response to an anti-immigrant bill approved by the U.S. House of Representatives.
The U.S. congressional initiative, which still must be approved by the Senate, proposes walling off the U.S.-Mexico border in its entirety to curb illegal immigration. Mexico has since been looking for Latin American allies for support against the measure.
"We are coordinating a meeting for Jan. 9, which was originally planned before the end of the year, but we postponed it in order to include other countries," said Guatemalan Foreign Secretary Jorge Briz on Wednesday.
Briz said he was working with Mexican Foreign Relations Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez to get other Central American nations to take part in a proposal that would include the approval of Temporary Protection Status (TPS) visas in the United States for all participating countries.
TPS STATUS
TPS is a status given to immigrants, legal or not, from specific countries who cannot return home safely because of armed conflict or environmental damage. TPS holders can apply for legal status in the United States.
Honduran, Salvadoran, and Nicaraguan citizens in the United States already have access to TPS, which protects them from deportation and allows them to apply for official documents such as driver´s licenses. Furthermore, it gives them access to Social Security, which is currently prohibited to undocumented immigrants.
Guatemala would like its citizens to have access to TPS in the United States, although U.S. authorities have said the request is unlikely to be approved under current conditions.
Remittances sent home by foreign workers in the United States are the principal source of income for Mexcio and Central America.
If we don't do what they say, they will be very very angry.
And they will write a report saying how angry they are.
The USA trembles with fear.
ping
Here in Mexico it is quite customary for rich people to live in limited access areas, with gates, keys and high walls. They wouldn't let just anyone come into their house now would they? It must be something else, maybe a political message they want to go to the press saying they are backing the undocumented workers....
We could ask those nations how many Mexicans we can send them.
It's our land. We'll build whatever we want to Mexico. Now go piss off!
If they'd use the Ports of Entry, we wouldn't need a wall.
Maybe the US Citizenship and Immigrations Services website is not up to date, but currently it lists no Central American countries that qualify for TPS.
This wall could spell the end of these corrupt latin american leaders given they would have to pay attention in resolving the social/economic issues of their countries now that the safety valve is about to be shut. Watch 'em steal billions as they head for a soft landing elsewhere. Meanwhile, we'll have to roll up our sleeves and indirectly clean up the mess in their sorrya$$ countries. Good, it's about time. And if these losers meet with Castro and his latest round of loser friends from SA, we should inform them that any collaboration with that a$$hole will only cause them more grief. My growing concern is the quiet, Chinese influence in central and south america...
You can count on the following to aid his Highness Royale Fox:
1. Democrat Party
2. ACLU
3. Mecha
4. The Wall Street Journal Opinion Section (which I normally love, but let's face it, they represent Bush's pro-illegal immigration, cheap labor policies.)
I'm so scared...What are they going to do, Invade? ...They already are invading. 8^/
By the way, don't forget to file your TPS report.
Am I thinking right when I say it is none of their darn business?
Doesn't Mexico have a wall and border security on its southern front to prevent (not succesfully) illegal immigrants coming in from cental and south america?
This is simply the attitude thats created by the liberal policy of entitlement. The mexicans have formulated a mindset that they call the shots. That they are entitled to come into this country to live and take advantage of all the benefits the democrats hand them.
Free medical care. Free schooling. Free child birthing. All the things they would never get living in Mexico.
Time to remove TPS status from Honduran, Salvadoran, and Nicaraguan citizens.
Thank 40 years of demonrats, multi-culturalists, and one-worlders for giving them a sense of cultural superiority.
