I think you misunderstand FRiend, I don't feel my liberty, or the liberty of others, is infringed by recording phone conversations of people whose stated goal is the destruction of the United States (and therefore me and my family).
Be careful on your assumptions about who is and is not involved in protecting liberties. You don't know who is on the other side of the post and what he/she does for a living.

The Constitution is a better tool for defending rights than illegal wiretaps.
And no, this isn't comment on the legality or illegality of any particular wiretaps. Only wiretaps in general.
