Hundreds of al-Qaida insurgents attacked a heavily armed U.S. Special Forces camp in Afghanistan on the day Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was in the country discussing U.S. troop reductions, according to the New York Daily News.
A statement by the Taliban, al-Qaida's allies, said 400 mujahedeen staged "the biggest attack upon the crusading forces in Afghanistan."
U.S. sources said no Americans were hurt in the nighttime shootout at Camp Tillman on the Afghan-Pakistan border.
The camp is home to several hundred soldiers, including elite 82nd Airborne Division paratroopers and Green Berets.
B-52 bombers, Apache gunships, A-10 Warthog jets, artillery and infantry delivered a "devastating" counterattack outside the camp's walls, resulting in more than a dozen confirmed enemy kills, sources told the Daily News.
The suicidal assault came last week on the day Rumsfeld visited American troops at Bagram Airfield, and hours after Vice President Dick Cheney made a stopover on his way to Iraq.
The fight is the latest sign that a group now calling itself al-Qaida in Afghanistan is adopting the aggressive tactics used against U.S. forces in Iraq, the Daily News reports, as Washington is increasingly talking about withdrawing from Iraq.

those tactics only work in urban enviroments, out in the open near a U.S Base is more suicide.

OK, where's the speculation as to how the islamists found out Rumsfeld was going to be there that day?

The mental image of these Terrorist scum getting an up close and personal look at "B-52 bombers, Apache gunships, A-10 Warthog jets" makes me feel are warm and tingly inside.

As I recall my history, not a single US citizen / soldier participated in any of the Crusades. I fail to see how Islamo-Facists can say that we are crusaders.
If this had happened in Iraq the NYT and Wash Post would be potificating about how we're really losing the war. Congress would be calling for hearings. Walter Cronkite would be wheeled out to talk about Viet Nam and Tet.
I make a motion that we leave the troops and have a drawdown of press in Iraq instead.

I love the dozens to 0 kill ratio.

The suicidal assault ...resulting in more than a dozen confirmed enemy kills, sources told the Daily News.
Glad to hear no US casualties, but this story seems somewhat overblown. Describing it as a suicidal assault by 400 enemy with only 12 confrimed kills seems a little less than suicidal to me.
