Thanks for the review.

I just rented The Island... it was quite an entertaining action flick. I'm not sure why it didn't do so well in theatrical release.

I liked The Island too. Reminded me of a cross between Coma and Logan's Run sort of .

Probably because it was a remake of a movie so sucky it ended up on MST3K. But then, I'd expect nothing less from Michael Bay, who gave us the super-suck Armageddon.

I thought it was easily the best work that Michael Bay has done. But I think him being the director kind of diminished the audience. You just can't see him and indie queen Scarlett Johanssen working together. But they both did good work for The Island, with Bay holding back on his worse instincts.

I'll tell you why it didn't do well. Most reviews were not very positive (other than Michael Medved) because it had, as its underlying theme, the idea that life was valuable (think stem cell research)and the concept of using live people as donors is wrong. There were no homosexuals or deviants in whom they could rejoice! just MHO.

We saw it, too, and were impressed with its pro-life message. I wasn't' surprised that it did so poorly at the box office, but rather that it could get made in the first place.

Probably because it was good.

I just saw the Island the other day at a friend's house. I don't know why I missed it at the theater. I think the previews must not have been impressive. It should have done a hell of a lot better!

It got practicly no support from the studios or hollywood. I think that it's because of... Well, you know what I'm talking about, that makes the hollywood crowd uncomfortable (I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet). The movie has a decidedly life affirming message.

Good movie. Lot's of subtle questions that need to be answered, IMHO.
