OSD Public Affairs bills the media for the reporters travel per DoD Directive 5122.8.

Could you point out which paragraph says that? I can't seem to find it.

One has to know how to read Governmenteese - hehe. Suspect it might be covered in detail elsewhere - i.e. 4.6. Insure that the use of military carriers for public affairs purposes complies with transportation policies promulgated by the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

I love the comment under post #113 But they could make an "emergency departure" out of some third world hell hole, with no time to board the press. Maybe just a training exercise, in case they really do need to get the VP to his "undisclosed location" in one hell of a hurry. Wouldn't that be just what they deserve - left in a 3rd world hell hole. That would give them something to grouse about, and another item to add to the list of impeachable offenses.
