The Family Stone

Pot-smoking, gay adoption, and mothers gleefully discussing how their daughters lost their virginity. Ahh, just what the Christmas season is all about. What? Not in your family?

Then you must not work in the film industry. Because apparently there, like doorbells and sleighbells and schnitzel with noodle, these things add up to a heartwarming holiday.

The Family Stone is yet another case of movie marketing bait-and-switch. Playing on Christmas nostalgia, which most Americans share, the trailer promised a rollicking, good-natured comedy about family foibles and the frustrating moments that eventually become our favorite memories.

What the film delivers is a ham-fisted primer on blue-state values.

I think I've changed my mind about seeing this movie...

You were expecting It's A Wonderful Life? Miracle on 34th Street? Not these days which is why I have only been to one movie in the past seven years. I refuse to pay my hard-earned money to watch this anti-family, anti-Christian crap.

A local critic described this film (a non Hollywood indie btw) as a "good-natured comic subversion of the holiday get-together".

Yes, this movie sounds like a total bait and switch.

On a good note, at least northeastern liberal families are aborting and gaying themselves into non-existence.

Better yet, just boycott anything that is rated above PG. That will send a message to Hollywood.

The bait-and-switch is a common method that Hollywood uses to get people to attend its "agenda masquerading as entertainment" movies.

The Cider House Rules, The Crying Game, The Hours, Million Dollar Baby, etc., etc.

Hey Hollyweird, the only film our family is going to the movies for this year is "The Chronicles of Narnia." Now piss off!

Dermot Mulroney? When has this so-called "eye candy" ever done a decent piece of acting?

I cannot STAND Diane Keaton.

Yeah, this will be a huge box-office success. Not. Expect Oscar nominations, though.

You mean all movies aren't full of this kind of lib BS nowadays?

I always assume they are. That's one of the reasons I don't go to see them.

Then there's Everett's brother Thad, who is not only homosexual but also handicapped and involved in an interracial relationship with a black partner with whom he is adopting a baby. Surprisingly, Thad does not work as a model for Benetton.

Could they pander to just one more group with this drivel?

I'd like to. Very tough to do. There aren't very many PG movies anymore. We don't see R-rated films, and many of my favorites have been PG-13. Of course, the elements that make the movies -13 restricted add NOTHING to the story, and could have easily been left out.

Unfortunately I saw it, wish I had read this first.

The good thing is that people were walking out.

It was unbelievably sad, in many ways.
