Yes, your'e right. However, the Bible specifically says that political power is given to people here on earth and we are to respect our leaders. I think he should be given power to do his job by the state; the state pays his salary. What I don't understand is why this is happening under a Christian president. I would have expected it under a Clinton and the new Carter, but not this president.

"Mr. Baugham said the 350 chaplains he oversees are concerned about a new set of guidelines issued in August after complaints about Christian evangelism at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. The Air Force guidelines allow "a brief, nonsectarian prayer" during military ceremonies "to add a heightened sense of seriousness or solemnity, not to advance specific religious beliefs."

This has nothing to do with the President. It has to do with the DOD, Air Force. From an AF wife.

With all due respect, their wrong.
Only political power is given to men; spiritual power comes from God.

I don't know ... at times Bush puzzles me ... land for peace - gimme a break! GWB has an undergraduate degree in WORLD history ... he was a former Sunday school teacher ... he should know the score on prophecy ... I believe he is trying to return evil with good but there are times when he may want to speak up MORE on issues. Only God knows what's going on with Bush ... .

Uh, I think we've been duped. This and a whole host of other things, but the way he is treating Isreal is the worst.

That blind obedience missive is carried a tad far. Jesus was very uppity with unjust power - especially when it was used to demean his Father's house. Remember the temple?

This holy man is just upturning some tables in the Military's temple where praying to Jesus is banned in his own house of worship.

Do you think Jesus would want Christians to obey Hitler's order to kill Jews? I don't think so.

What I don't understand is why this is happening under a Christian president.

Politics and government should have very little to do with religion, at least as little as possible. You maybe surprised, but even though he's Christian, and may discuss it in regards to his personal life, he is a leader to many who are not Christian - that's why his Christmas cards are "Holiday cards", etc.

Besides it's the military - if the leadership, whether it's at the flag level or goes upto the White House (I'm curious how far up the decision on how to word certain things goes) decides they don't want a chaplain mentioning Jesus, then that's the way it is, until somebody above them rules otherwise.

Wouldn't surprise me if they are trying to appease the agnostics/atheists/etc, but either way, this is the military, and the chaplains have to follow orders. If enough chaplains become upset and resign or are kicked out, and the personnel complained loudly enough, I'm sure something would be done.

People don't need Chaplains or formal services to pray to Jesus - that is one way for Christians in the military to work around this - nothing is stopping personnel from having informal prayer meetings - to slightly paraphrase the Bible...where two or more are gathered in His name...
